MMOs typically drop you where you logged out, though sometimes that's not the case.
[hider=Pointless anecdote]Like this one time for instance, I logged out of World of Warcraft in the Undercity. Logged back in a day later, and I was in some hot spring by a waterfall. This was back when Undercity still had those big ugly guards, and they so happened to join me. It wasn't a pleasant visual. So I logged out then back in, then wound up back in Undercity.[/hider]
