Well, if there's no signals wouldn't it still stand that it would be like if you were in the middle of a conversation and all of a sudden the person stopped moving, stopped talking, stopped responding or doing anything at all? I can see any form with a brain, or any spore form that has infected a host with a working brain, working out that the hives mind was no longer functional rather quickly. I imagine I might take a minute at the very most, because of there's no activity and signals it wouldn't be participating in the hive mind any more, which would only make sense if it was defective, destroyed or out of range, prompting the construction of a new mind
