Background:
 Jax was born and raised on the planet Kashyyyk. He learned to hunt, fight, and survive in the dangerous planet from an early age. He became an especially skilled marksman with a slugthrower which was more reliable and effective in the harsh jungles. His parents had settled on the planet attempting to flee the conflicts that threatened the galaxy and remain isolated. However, this backfired when the Clone Wars arrived at the planet with the arrival of Republic and Separatist forces. This only escalated with Order 66 and the rise of the Empire. Kashyyyk was occupied by the Empire, which began enslaving the local population. Jax fled the planet with his family to Alderaan, a relative safe haven from the Empire and his father joined the Rebel Alliance to fight back. Jax, upon reaching the age of twenty, also joined the Alliance and has served with it for half a decade.

Reason for joining the Alliance: 
 Jax's decision to join the rebels was fueled by the occupation of his home world by the Empire and the atrocities being committed there. He completely hates the Empire, and after his father joined the rebellion, Jax couldn't wait to get in line to kill some Imperials along with him.
