I'm just rather hyped up about this battle, I can feel history's wheels turning and I want to smash them to bits and twist them my own way xD

I don't care if we alter history a little, but it would be quite the coup for our humble legions to stop Hannibal cold lol.

He doubles us, and then some. Hannibal is a genius, one who hates Romans with an unbridled passion.

I'm trying to think of every angle to push here, I'm sorry if I'm being a little bullheaded xD just say so and I'll switch to a more middle-grounded way of thinking.

My last thought for now on the matter is that I'm not going to be able to post for almost another 24 hours. As I've mentioned before, I'll adapt to whatever develops from whoever posts first. I will say that we're not going to defeat Hannibal outright. I'm thinking that LancerDancer wants him to be a major antagonist in this RP, so we can't take him out of the fight in the first engagement. As long as that doesn't occur than I'm totally fine with however we handle it. I will say that if I am the first one to post, here is what I would propose:

-The Roman legions arrive at the Rhone River before Hannibal, and decide that if they do not press an attack presently, he will simply advance up the western shore of the Rhone until he reaches another suitable crossing point.

-Though outnumbered, the legions show great shrewdness in their assault. The battle ultimately results in the Roman legions having to strategically retreat back to the eastern side of the Rhone, and thusly Hannibal is able to make his crossing.

-Despite this definite strategic defeat against Rome, the legions manage to pose enough formidable resistance that they force Hannibal to cease his march along the coast, and he steers his army northward along the eastern side of the Rhone River valley.

What do you all think of that option?

I kind of like him dodging us as he did IRL. Rome tried to stop him on the Rhone but he completely evaded them (hence his alpine crossing). Hannibal could then fall upon a random North Italian legion or a gallic army and then deal a crippling blow.

I probably won't get a post up until tomorrow. Is anyone else planning on posting anytime soon? The OOC has been relatively quiet, save for a select few, and I would hate for LancerDancer to return to a stalled RP.

Hmm... I could work on a post, but it'd only be Ennius perspective on what Argentus has already accomplished- I certainly couldn't add anything further to what he's done

On the question of the legions' conduct against Rome's bane, we should all be prepared for compromise. Things have been handled well this far, but I would prefer (as has been mentioned) that Rome didn't win the war against Hannibal in one single fell stroke.

LordZell will be formally removed from the RP, come the next game turn, with his Legatus executed for a grand display of incompetence, and his legion will be disbanded.

Inactive players who are trending towards Zell's behaviour will be dealt with in similar fashion.

Superb work, Amongheroes, you've done very well in keeping things alive.

Right, I think this easiest way for me to proceed here is to do a headcount, otherwise I'll end up issuing orders to AWOL players and things will get confusing very quickly.
