Name: Randy Strumflip Race: Halfling Age: 38 Appearance: Personality: Randy is generally a tricky person because of his trade, and it's difficult to judge whether he's sincere about anything or not. He has a talent for and enjoys making a living solely out of people who are too gullible and absent-minded to recognize his true intentions. He is a sucker for physical humor and more often than not involves a joke of the latter to make his getaways. However, he winces when these encounters end lethally. Being a sort of 'brother' in the criminal underworld, he is unfazed by death, but he doesn't generally see it as an always necessary and sometimes glorious thing like the knights, assassins and barons do. All these characteristics, however, don't always point to him being a malicious person. He is simply mischievous and that is what gets food on the table. He could be considered chaotic neutral, one who values their own whims and personal freedom above all else. Class: Rogue. Not a thief (their aim is to get things that they shouldn't be getting), or an assassin (one who aims to kill people quickly and silently), but a rogue (a scoundrel who uses stealth and trickery to overcome enemies). Strengths: Randy's profession as a conner and charlatan make it very easy indeed for him to trick and convince almost any intelligent being. (Unfortunately, zombies and undead not included. But maybe an ogre or two?). Randy is naturally valiant and stealthy because of his halfling heritage. This also means that he is on slightly equal ground with most races due to the halfling's affable nature. Randy tends to misuse the latter to his advantage. Randy often sends his ill-gotten gains to his contacts in the underworld, in exchange for goods, luxuries and services. Thus, Randy has numerous contacts in the criminal underworld which he can reach out to for support. Randy is capable of hiding his true feelings about anything. He can even take on different identities with ease, and has several ready-made. A history of conning the wrong man has made Randy especially adept at getaways and using improvised weapons. Weaknesses: Like all other mischievous people, Randy has an uncanny knack for saying exactly the wrong thing at exactly the wrong time, even if he doesn't want to. Randy has conned many famous gamblers and innkeepers all across Alfanta, and is lucky to be barely tolerated in any inn or even allowed to oversee a card game. He utilizes his disguises mainly for this. Though sometimes there are instances where Randy actually plays fair, this makes his personality all the more slipperier. Randy is not very strong or tall. Self-explanatory. Thus, he tends to use brain over brawn. Randy can be obnoxious to certain personality types. Current Location: Drale, Valinfor History: Randy's early childhood did not shape him that much. He was born to humble fruit farmers in the remote halfling farming community of Longdale, Valinfor. Randy was the youngest of three sons, so he naturally was the 'baby' of the family. He more often than not had to contend with the envy of his bigger and stronger brothers, which he found out he had a talent for annoying and outwitting. His fondest memories are accompanying his father to market with a cart laden with apples and oranges while heartily tooting away at his pan flute. That is all he remembers of his early childhood. When Randy reached was still in his tweens (human teenage years), his parents passed away. Randy's older brothers were twins and were unable to decide who was born first. It ultimately ended in a terrible house argument and one of the twins was kicked out. Since Randy had no desire to follow a tyrannical brother, he supported the underdog and accompanied his outcast brother to Drale, where he decided that he would try his luck. Randy and his sibling were in high demand when they offered their services as apprentices. Since the war was still ongoing and the tension between races still existed, merchants and artisans were eager for nimbler hands and faster legs than ordinary humans to deliver messages and operate delicate contraptions. Eventually, they found work in a common inn which also sold gaming equipment like dice, chess sets and cards. Randy made the mistake of cheekily adding weights to sets of die, which of course earned the inn a bad name and got the Strumflip brothers arrested. In prison, the innkeeper/gaming set craftsman attempted to murder his former apprentices. Randy awoke just in time, saved his brother from their master and made a break for it when the guard opened their cell door. Randy's brother was killed by a stray arrow and Randy was about to come to the same fate when suddenly, an unknown stranger dived and saved the 25-year-old halfling. The stranger revealed himself as the main consumer of Randy's weighted dice and was amazed at the subtle craftsmanship. He explained that he was a charlatan, a consman, a cheater at games of 'chance'. Randy showed explicit talent at what he did, and generously made an offer for Randy to be his apprentice. Since he had nowhere else to go, it seemed an incredible offer. Randy was the charlatan's apprentice for four years, until the charlatan decided to let him go because an 'adopted son' for a seemingly unemployed gambler would prove suspicion after a while. Randy now practices the art of conning and cheating while also continuing his original trade as a game set artisan.c Other: nah.
