You'd be surprised actually, I was looking up the sizes of Italy's military in the past to give me a rough estimate and then reduce from there. To put it bluntly, The historic Kingdom of Italy maintained an insane armed forces. I will reduce more though, because I still find the numbers iffy.

Also the history flies in what we've left as the nation's canon.

"Fought on the side of the Allied Powers during the Great War. Invaded by the Ottoman Empire in the early 1970s. Spanish support helps secure the northern part of the country and halt the Ottoman advance. By 1974, the Spanish governor of Northern Italy - Aurelio Batista - rules the north alone. Later, Batista goes on to push the Ottomans out of Southern Italy. Shortly after, he cuts his ties to Spain. He rules Italy with an iron fist for several years.

In 1976, Italian rebels begin to fight back against the Batistan regime. Spain - enraged that Batista refused to heel - begins to secretly assist the rebel cause. In early 1977, Spain declares war on Batista's regime and engages in open warfare. Batista flees the country and the rebels take over, forming a new government."

It's in the the three OP posts, under European lore summaries.

The military is also considerably bloated. And using the current active-duty service members as a base Italy only really has a 200,000 strong army, roughly 300,000 with the reserve. And I don't think the Italians were ever so much of a naval power they needed - or could ever muster - something like an aircraft carrier in order to project their power, their influence has only been localized.

We'll also need Googer here.

Mmmm, valid points. Italy only ever tried to build two carriers anyway, and they were scrapped because they didn't finish in time for the end of World War 2(which hasn't happened). Not to mention they were built off the hull of a passenger liner if I recall. Will make edits as necessary.

And I double checked the Royal Italian Army's size and you are right, they were considerably large. Almost disproportionately.

And I called in Googer, but he's playin' Total War so I don't know if he got the message or will be on the way in. But it'd be nice to probably talk to him since he's had a big effect on Italy in RP lore and is the major power in Europe (that's active, at least).

Since he's probably not seeing this anyway, we should start joining all the RP's he does and drop subtle references to his laziness.

It's our twisted way of rekindling a once loving relationship that was broken off months ago because we started wearing a wedding dress on dates.

We still love you, Hugs.

Googer in the House.

I didn't see anything show-stopping in Wilted's app. If you play as Italy, I'd appreciate some mention of Batista's Regime, and how generally crappy things were for the fourish years he was in charge there. We can work in how Batista supplanted the monarchy and he how ran the show in Italy; but try to build up Italy as a country that has just recovered from a period of repression and foreign governance. You should not try to play Italy like a nation that woke up one morning and decided "hey, we should start becoming important and invading things" like a lot of new players do. I won't hound you for not reading the lore to the letter and getting every detail right - we all know that the lore is massive and that would be inhumane to expect that of anyone. All I'd like is to see you try to work with the hand you've been dealt. Italy has not had an easy time this past decade - they've been invaded by the Ottomans and made pawns by the Spanish. At the same time, they have a lot to be proud of: they resisted the Ottomans and ousted Batista. They've seen trama in a short period of time and they've been hardened by it. That's the framework you should build off of: an Italy that has earned its country and monarchy back with blood, sweat, and tears and is looking to recover their pride and kick some ass.

Work off of that, and I'll excuse/work with any inconsistencies. Make some good stories, that's the important thing. Enjoy Italy.

Thank you, I had no intentions of really sweeping all that past under the rug. It gives me writing material and a good foundation to really delve into the cultural and economic aspects of the Italy of 1980. Especially in the topic of Spanish relations and the war-damaged south, as well as Batista(He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named). Italy's situation is a very interesting one, and I'm looking forward to it. On that note, I'll be getting to work on that as soon as my schedule is less overburdened.

And if the posts about the Spanish Cazadores looking for Batista are still canon he would have long fled the nation and gone into hiding. And I talked to Googer before this point and your return of picking up where the old-Italy player left off with Batista in that he's off in hiding in Russia somewhere, and has a chance of showing up in my own arcs.
