I can adjust the age relatively comfortably, and the time frames with it.. As for what singled her out, I'd say probably that she was knowingly and actively using/teaching herself little telekinetic force tricks to help her steal/get away, as well as perhaps that she was a lone Vahla child in a stationary place. 

Also, I had considered that being one of the things she was using her training to overcome: her discomfort/fear of being stuck in the same place- particularly around people that judged her. It felt, to me, like having some kind of natural, internal struggle might give her a little more depth and make it easier to think in terms of a still-learning and growing padawan. 

All the same, if you'd like I will find a new race and pull together a new backstory. I'm full of ideas most of time anyway. :)
