MY CHARACTERS
Kate is pale, with blue eyes, long red hair, and freckles. She’s got a slim fit frame, made for running, but not very well muscled. She often has her hair tied up, constantly tying and retying to eliminate any loose strands of hair. Note, though the picture does not have freckles she does in fact have freckles. She is 5'6" NAME: Kate Goodall AGE: 28 PERSONALITY: Kate is, in general, very sweet tempered and gentle. She's not quick to anger, and like Selina, has a great sense of humor. She presents herself as sweet, but doesn't trust easily, remnants of the childhood trauma she received from high school bullying. When Kate does create friendships with others, she tends to form strong bonds, and is a great supportive character. She's got a touch of motherly intuition from years of having to take care of her younger siblings. While normally not argumentative, Kate will, in her present state, defer from arguments even more than usual. This is more for the health of the baby she is pregnant with, as well as maintaining her own emotional and mental health while pregnant. Kate's relationships often begin neutral, and she prefers not to take sides from the get go. It's worth noting that she's a stark contrast to Selina in this department. Kate's an independent thinker, and often comes up with her own little proverbial analogies to describe the situations and she and Selina find themselves in. She never liked him, and the relationship failed massively when he tried to engage in sex with her and another girl he had been dating simultaneously, hoping for some girl on girl action. The mohawk itself is slightly wavy. She is 5'8" Mohawk reference Picture NOTE: Selina looks not much like the woman in the picture aside from her hair. This just a reference for the curl density of the mohawk. Remember Selina is half indian with olive skin, black hair, and gray eyes. Not completely Caucasian with blonde hair, and white skin. Due to her appearance, Selina if often mistaken for tough and punk. But upon closer inspection, it's easy to see Selina's soft face and slim body don't fit the punk, tough, lifestyle. Selina can be temperamental, especially when it comes to her small family of herself, Kate, and their unborn baby. Both Kate and Selina are steady peacemakers, and Selina is readily diplomatic in most situations. She will break the rules however, if it concerns Kate's safety. Selina is easy to befriend, but follows Kate's lead when it comes to trusting others. This is not because Selina is not a trusting person; rather, she prefers to follow Kate's judgement, believing Kate, who is more sensitive to personality, to be a better judge of character than herself. If left to her own devices, the problem arises among Selina's friendships. She might find herself between a rock and hard place, especially when befriended by two feuding sides or people. He's got dark green eyes, that, at times, can appear almost black. At present, Jack is wearing a pair of dress pants, a button up shirt, and a large navy blue bubble jacket. NAME: Jack "Jackie" Robins AGE: 38 PERSONALITY: Jackie's one of those lawyers that's passionate about what he fights for. This passion has resulted in him nearly quitting his job numerous times; he now even takes the morality and choices of the character Atticus Finch more seriously, having now numerously faced those same morally abusive situations. As a rule, though, he is a great and supportive father. Jackie's father, a lawyer himself, was also too busy to spend time with his son. Jack then relied heavily on his mother for support, and this has instilled in him a great sense of respect for women. It also molded him into a man who fights for the underdog; abortion, women's rights, racial rights, same-sex couple rights. You name the underdog, and Jack's got them. Jack's an intelligent man; you have to be intelligent to be a lawyer that fights and supports for what he fights and supports. Often dressed in her brother's hand-me-downs when at home, Scout is very "boyish" in stature. Her hair has been chopped short; originally, she had done it herself before her father had given in and taken her to get a haircut. She favors pants and tops over dresses and skirts. Scout's got brownish-blonde hair and the same dark green eyes as her father. She looks thin and wiry, though there's a roundness to her tummy and face that emphasizes her youth. Unlike her novel counterpart, Scout isn't very tall for her age, and doesn't tower over all the boys in her class, even though she would really like too. Presently, Scout is wearing a pair of pajama pants, a warm sweater, and a dark green bubble jacket. NAME: Louise "Scout" Robins AGE: 8 PERSONALITY: At best, Scout is an outstanding student with a penchant for reading, just like her fictional namesake. Scout is considerably more intelligent than her brother, though her brother is far from stupid. It's just the drastic difference in the children's moral and optimistic outlooks that make them so vastly different. Scout is young, positive, and morally sure. Her brother, however, has just only begun the moody years that will introduce him into his teens, and so his outlook is greatly different from his innocent, optimistic sister's. OCCUPATION: Student; Fourth grade. ETHNICITY: Caucasian-American EQUIPMENT: A pink, flowery, backpack, filled with Scout's favorite teddy bear, and a collection of pokemon cards passed down from her father to Scout. OTHER INTERESTING INFORMATION Named after a main character of To Kill a Mockingbird.

APPEARANCE: Jeremy has shaggy brown hair, dark, serious, brown eyes, and thick eyebrows. His face overall, however, is very pointy. Jeremy often dresses to impress, and has tried to imitate his father's businessman looks on several occasions. Right now his face is at that intermediate stage between puberty and prepubescence, the stage where kids' faces tend to look the ugliest. Not cute, but not very good looking either. Of course, girls his age probably all think otherwise, but it's worth noting they're at their ugly phase too. At the time of the apocalypse, Jeremy had been in gym class, and is presently wearing a pair of black sweatpants, and a loose grey t-shirt, along with a bubble jacket. NAME: Jeremy "Jem" Robins AGE: 12 PERSONALITY: Jeremy is only just beginning his entrance into puberty. At twelve, while he doesn't exactly having raging hormones, he sure likes to think he does. His voice hasn't even changed. Jeremy is very full of himself, believing twelve, like many of his classmates, to be the age of adulthood, the marking period before high school. Jeremy represents the naivety that many eight graders experience until they are thrown into the reality that is high school. Unluckily for Jeremy, it looks like he won't be attending high school any time soon. Which means he'll just have to learn all of life's lessons the hard way. In a way, though book smart, Jeremy is much stupider than his sister when it comes to reality. Scout sees everything with the innocence of a child, and in a way, sees things for what they really are. But Jeremy believes he's an adult now; he forces himself to see the dark and perverted things that aren't really there, truly believing that all adults see is the dark and perverted things in life, and pretends he knows what all the adults are talking about. He's even tried to insist to his sister that he nearly had sex (keep in mind Scout doesn't know what sex is) with his 8th grade crush, even though it was only kiss and a poor attempt at groping. OCCUPATION: Student; 8th Grade ETHNICITY: Caucasian-American EQUIPMENT: Backpack with a textbook a bottle of water, a few snacks. WEAPONS: A hockey stick stolen from his school's sports equipment. The most prominent thing that ever happened to him was the divorce of his parents. Jeremy still remembers his mother. Even as an alcoholic, she always tried so hard to make her children's lives tolerable. But Jeremy still remembers her drunken rages, and the one time Scout ended up with a black and blue eye. He tries to hide how much he misses her; from his father, his friends, even Scout. But when you have such a perceptive little sister, it's hard to cover everything up. Jeremy blames his father for what happened; wishes Jack had been a more supportive husband. But the kid knows his dad's got his own emotional problems. In Jeremy's eyes, Jack's all about helping others. Sure, he spends time with his kids, but Jeremy can't count on his fingers (or toes) how many times his father has dove into rants about the social problems of society. He hates it, and wishes his father would stop trying to be so profound about the rest of the world. Jeremy wants him to be a normal adult, like the one Jeremy himself believes he is. OTHER INTERESTING INFORMATION He's named after a main character of the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird.

Scout’s rough fingers curled idly around the handlebars of her bicycle. She was eyeing up ole’ Scott McHarris, who lived across the street in the most god-awful piss yellow house she’d ever seen. He was out riding too, pretending not to notice that the training wheels on Scout’s bike were missing now. Scout and Scott had been real good friend up till a year ago; but eight years made a boy a man, and twelve years made him ancient, or so Jem declared anyway. And yet, little manly Scott was still riding with training wheels and still struggling with spelling and to Scout, he couldn’t have possibly been a man, not by any measure out there. Her grip tightened on the flaming red and black handlebars of her dingy hand-me-down bike. She twisted them in this direction and that, but ultimately decided to get off and make the laborious trek back towards the garage, bicycle in tow. She didn’t feel like riding, not when Scott was being such a jerk. He hadn’t even looked at her (not directly at least), and much less lifted a stubby, cheesy, Dorito dipped hand, to wave at her. She would get him back at school; embarrass him in front of all the little man boys that tried so hard to wave their newfound superiority over all the girls. How often had Scout, in the past month, now heard a parent say, “oh, you know, boys will be boys,” as a poorly formulated excuse to cover the downright repulsive habits many of the little boys in her class had developed. Her father would have never let that flow, not in the Robins household. Jackie Robins would have rather beat his son with a newspaper to Kingdom come before he ever even allowed Jeremy to slip up the way Scout had seen with the boys in her class. Scout had decided, Jackie Robins was man cut from a fabric like no other. She had never seen her father condescend on anyone who didn’t deserve it, and she didn’t quite understand why this behavior of his was so significant, but she believed by the way people treated him that truly he made a difference. Of course, there were times when he had lashed out at his children. Not like Scout’s mother; her father was too careful and loved his children too much to hurt them physically. But he had done it, verbally, like any responsible parent would do. Scolded them for breaking the laws of the house; screamed his head off when Jem and his friends had brought home porn magazines (whatever that was); waggled his finger and scowled when Scout had (accidently, she maintained) broken the neighbors window with a throw stronger than her know-it-all brother. Her father wasn’t perfect. But he was a good man. Rolling her bicycle into the garage, Scout made sure it was parked perfectly in its little rack and free from any unsightly debris. When she was sure she had surveyed it thoroughly, she pranced to the connecting door, pushing it open and finding herself in the kitchen. Jack was there, reading To Kill a Mockingbird and sipping on hot coffee. She would never understand her mother’s obsession with that back (having barely known her mother, anyway) and would never understand her father’s newfound interest in it. All Scout knew was that she and Jem were named after the main characters and that her daddy was a lawyer just like theirs. “Can I have some?” She jabbed a finger at the hot mug of caffeine; smoke still curled up from its surface, no doubt warming Jackie’s face with each sip he took. “No.” He never let her taste coffee. Said it gave little children brown teeth and rotted their brains so they couldn’t sleep anymore. Said it was an adults’ only beverage, like beer or wine. Scout hadn’t believed him, and besides, Jem had said her father lied about that. One night the two had been home alone and in a burst of courage (or stupidity), Jem had decided to make himself a cup of coffee. As far as Scout had seen, his teeth were still white as snow, and his brain hadn’t rotted much, though he had stayed awake all night, and cried thinking the it’d worked and that his brain was melting. But then again, Jem believed himself to be a full grown adult, and maybe he was right. Scout didn’t think he did very many adult thing; he still cried and she’d never seen an adult cry. He still whined, and she’d never seen an adult whine. And he couldn’t cook, and as far as Scout knew, that was an adults’ only job. “Where’s your brother.” “Outside.” Scout peeked out the back window, fervently hoping her brother had rethought his reclusive existence to come and join the rest of the family in the kitchen. He rarely spent time with them anymore, rarely played with Scout, and condescended on girls far too much for her to tolerate. But he was her brother, and she loved him, and still missed playing “stupid kiddie games” with him. “Daddy, what’s he holdin’?” Scout watched with inquisitive fascination as her brother leveled a shiny black object. He held it with both hands, stretching his arms out as far as they would go, and tilting his head to the side. It was a gun, she deduced as her brother tentatively pointed to an apple sitting in the circle of the tire swing their father had so generously spent time assembling. It must have been a toy gun, she decided. To her knowledge, Jackie didn’t believe in ammunitions. But, before she knew it, there was Jackie Robins slapping Jem’s arms with as much force as possible. The gun plopped noiselessly into the browning grass of the backyard, and Jackie kicked it away with his foot. He was holding Jem tight on his arm, and if Scout wasn’t mistaken, the boy had tears pooling up in his eyes. In the blink of an eye, Scout was streaking down the grass of the backyard, running with morbid interest tickling her brain. She didn’t care if she got yelled at; she wanted to know where he’d gotten the gun. “What’d you think you were doing, Jem?” Scout could see the veins on the side of Jackie’s head bulging and pulsing blue; she didn’t think she’d even seen him that mad before. “I f-found it, in the house, Jack.” There it was. Scout wasn’t sure if her brother’s stupidity knew any end. He taken to calling her father by his name in the recent months. Jackie didn’t like it, but he’d let it slip often. Now was not one of those time. “You listen to me,” he spat, causing Jem to flinch then scrunch his face in the pre-cry way, “I don’t even want to see you touch that gun again. You hear me. And I’m not ‘Jack’, not to you boy. I’m your father, and you better start showing me some damn respect, or I swear to god Jem, I’ll send your ass straight to your mother.” Scout watched as Jem wrenched his arm from their father’s grasp, teeth grinding, eyes wet with tears. For a moment, she feared he would lash back out at Jackie, provoke their father into something worse. She was afraid. Afraid that Jackie, who had never laid a violent hand on his children before this, would turn into a monster like their mother. But Jem just turned tail and ran. Ran back to house, up the stairs, and into the seclusion of his room. Scout and Jackie watched him go, and Jackie never made a move to stop him, and Scout decided she never wanted to talk to her brother again. “Why’s he doin’ that, daddy,” she asked, approaching her father when she was sure it was safe to do so. Jackie Robins threw a loving arm around his daughter, kneeling to plant a sloppy kiss on her face, which she attempted to dodge. She wondered if he was reassuring her that he still loved her? “Why’s he tryin’ to hurt our family. He’s been doin’ that since September started.” “Jem’s just…having a hard time, baby. It’s hard, being a boy at his age, especially in our family.” “But, why?” Scout couldn’t understand why her father had to go and start being cryptic. She didn’t like it when Jem played high and mighty, but truthfully, there were things she was too young to understand, and this was one of those things. “We don’t have a mommy, sweety. We’re not like all the other families, I supposed. That’s what he really wants.” If Scout remembered correctly, they hadn’t needed a mommy. Jackie would always be good enough; and besides what’d she been good for anyway? But she didn’t say anything. This was one of those things she wouldn’t understand, not for a while anyway. Instead, she followed her father back inside, back into the warmth of their home and out of chilling cold that spelled the breaking bonds in their family.
