Once upon a time, in the magical world of Equestria...

... there came an era when the ideals of friendship gave way to greed, selfishness, paranoia and a jealous reaping of dwindling space and natural resources. Lands took up arms against their neighbors. The end of the world occurred much as we had predicted - the world was plunged into an abyss of balefire and dark magic. The details are trivial and pointless. The reasons, as always, purely our own. The world was nearly wiped clean of life. A great cleansing; a magical spark struck by pony hooves quickly raged out of control. Megaspells rained from the skies. Entire lands were swallowed in flames and fell beneath boiling oceans. Ponykind was almost extinguished, their spirits becoming part of the ambient radiation that blanketed the lands. A quiet darkness fell across the world...

... but it was not, as some has predicted, the end of the world. Instead, the apocalypse was simply the prologue for another bloody chapter in pony history. In the early days, thousands were spared the horrors of the holocaust by taking refuge in enormous underground shelters known as Stables. But when they emerged, they had only the hell of the wastes to greet them. All except those in Stable Two. For on that fateful day when spellfire rained from the sky, the giant steel door of Stable Two swung close, and never re-opened...

-Prologue, Fallout Equestria. Kkat.

What is Fallout: Equestria?

Written in 2011, Fallout: Equestria was a fanfiction of the My Little Pony and Fallout universe authored by Kkat. In that simpler time, no one could probably predict the behemoth that the novel-length fan-fiction would release unto the world. Even before the fiction was finished the world of cruel juxtapositions that Kkat had spun created - in effect - a sub-fandom living within a fandom itself. Spinning the cruelties of the wasteland of Fallout in with the colorful magic of My Little Pony it was a cross-breeding that probably should not have succeed. But by some stroke of luck or brilliance it worked. And the resulting story - Fallout: Equestria - is lauded as being perhaps one of the brony world's best pieces of literature spawning many hundreds of sub-fics/fan-fictions all its own, music, artwork, a radio play, and even a video game in the works.

In just about three years the FoE world has exploded and continues to chug heavily with a dedicated fandom doubling as fans of the show My Little Pony.

The magic of the story comes in a sense to its workable juxtaposition of the darkness of the Wasteland to the colorful brilliance of the [former] pony world. In its devastation it creates in itself a hope for betterment and the rediscovery of the virtues of old that held Equestria - and the world - together like glue. This does not come with its own tests and challenges to its characters in the form of blood, sweat, tears, and smoke.

It's size and strength as a literary work thus leads me to throw caution to the wind and say: why the fuck not RP it?

It's not like there are already many more doing the same in Kkat's world. So, let's partake in a little something?

I don't set a required limit myself as some moments wouldn't benefit from going too deep into narration, or would be stumbling if you try and add a lot of dialog to add "meat" to a conversation. So if you're going to talk with other player-characters without playing it out first in PMs then I don't set rigid standards on that pretense. Though over-all I do like to see effort and would appreciate three-paragaphs at least. But you're perfectly invited to write as much as you want beyond that.

Interested. Been awhile since I've had the chance to get involved with a Fallout: Equestria RP. I don't have much else on my plate either, so I can pretty much dedicate myself to this if we get off the ground! Out of all the things that could eat up my free time, I hope it can be this. xDD

Three paragraphs is a pretty good general post length to aim for, in my opinion. I certainly have no problem meeting that.

Now all we need is more. And a decision on where to put this.

Personally I'm not a fan of Free RP so that rules out that section.

I'm in the same boat concerning Free, I can't get into short posts like that.

This should probably go into Casual, though deciding on Advanced instead wouldn't bother me any.

I also do hope no one takes too much offense to the possibility of the RP being more sand-boxed than not, in a sense. I mean, I could try to give a point to it but if there's one thing I've learned it's that if people get forced to have to interact early on before it's confirmed we'll all be dedicated then the RP will quickly die when one person doesn't post and forces a mighty find cascading effect of inactivity.

Under this pretense perhaps someone will end up doing something that leads into a wild adventure for us all. So who knows. Just throwing that out.

As someone that has ran his fair share of RP's, I understand where you're coming from. Difficult to trust that people will stay at first, sometimes they'll just make a CS and never post, or will post a few times only to leave someone hanging. I like having it more sand-box, considering it leaves the world more open for me to explore if I get bored or just end up being alone from someone leaving the RP. That freedom is appreciated.

Since I love visual aids for the world and such I probably won't make the RP formal until I can at the least draw up a rough map of post-war Equestria and the surrounding land so we have something to compare are locations against and thus towards each other. In the meantime as you wait, I suppose I could offer out a deviously simple character application to get you all thinking about characters; so we don't spend too much time talking about it in the OOC and we don't drown the RP in nothing but that early in its life.

Name:
Race:
Physical Appearance: (Include gender and/or age)
Backstory: (Minimum three full paragraphs)

If you do post them here then know I want them reposted in the formal thread. This could take some time in itself since I don't like to jump to things too quickly. You could post them here to share if you want to conspire between others to determine if there's anything you might do together when the thread's up: or you could hold onto them on a separate document to keep safe and touch up now and then for when the actual thread itself goes up and you can get on the ball quick.

Hum.

I'll probably put out something basic with this tonight, and add onto it whenever we get access to the whole thing. I'm generally a patient person, so I won't have much of an issue waiting as you make any preparations you deem necessary before the OOC stage.

I'm not likely to add anything more to the application since my rule of thumb is to "Keep it simple, stupid". The real thing I'm looking for is coherency. If you at least write like you've grasped the premise of Fallout: Equestria then fine by me. Of course I'm open to suggestions, always.

I also guess since I brought up FoE's premise I could always ask: what'd be the consensus on using some elements from Project Horizon's? As a side-fic it's got a mixed bag, despite Kkat's opinion of the piece (as far as I know). But it does have at the same time a lot of things that fill in the holes of the original Fallout Lore. Such as the origins of Taint and why it's distributed the way it is, and sort of adds another Wasteland to the potential map. I should then probably get to finishing Somber's behemoth and see what people claim as a total loss of subtlety so I I'd be better prepared to know what should be expected there.
