The year is 3900 BBY, over 1000 years since the Great Hyperspace War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire, ending in the defeat of the Sith Empire on the Second Battle of Korriban and appearing to have bested the Sith Empire, scattering and destroying the remaining survivors of this dark Empire. Of course, as suspected by many within the Republic chain of command, the Sith were not gone for good, too many were unaccounted for, especially notable figures such as Naga Sadow himself, and his personal Massassi warriors. For this reason, the Galactic Republic tasked one of its more talented intelligence officers with assembling a task force that was capable of tracking down these remenants and dispatching them, or holding them in place long enough for an emergency force of the nearest military vessels to arrive and obliterate the holdings of the surviving Sith Empire warriors and command. With this taskforce given respectable leeway and funding, the Galactic Republic figured it was safe from the Sith Empire regrouping enough to be a threat, and for nearly 1100 years, it worked, new generations of intelligence and military operators assigned to this taskforce to ensure the Sith Empire remained scattered, and holdouts were eliminated. However, at the dawn of the year 3900 BBY, a disturbing event occurred that tipped off the Republic Anti-Sith taskforce something was missed, something big. A well patrolled, but distant, system went silent, no Republic channels registering any response when updates were requested. Scouts from the taskforce arrived to find the Republic stronghold obliterated, and the system competely sacked. However, corpses bearing the sigils of the old Sith Empire were found, although they were clearly only missed due to their locations. The scouts sent reports back to the main body of the Taskforce, who were deeply disturbed by this turn of events. The damage to the Republic outpost didn't match any known siege weapons or tactics, Sith or otherwise, which meant it was something new, or unknown. Said weapon apparently could vaporize such a fortified location without giving them a chance to defend themselves. Such attacks, in varying degrees, became more common in the outskirts of Republic space, and even ships in transit were not safe, ships in hyperspace coming out in pieces, clearly hit by powerful munitions. Whatever the Sith had now, the Republic was reliant on its Taskforce to find what is causing all this, and a means to strike against this newfound threat against the Galactic Republic. ---
Founded shortly after the Great Hyperspace War that took place 5000 BBY, Taskforce Episilon 217 (Shortened to ST E-217 on paperwork or informally referred to as just the Taskforce), the original, and current, stated goal of this Taskforce was the tracking, containment, and dissolution of any and all remnants of the Sith Empire and related forces, by any and all means at the discretion of the Taskforce Commander, with or without Jedi aid. A series of rules, regulations, and set points of severity were established to give any given Commander a fallback to make decisions on, while footnotes and additions from prior experience aided in guiding the actions of the Commander, although the unique responsibilities and potential stress mean a stringent testing and examination period for any potential replacements is required, helping ensure only the right (wo)man is in the position at any one time, answering directly to the Chancellor, rather than higher ups in the conventional chain of command. Rather than follow a formal military organization beyond the senior command, individual teams and squads are formed on an As Needed basis, with resources and manpower issued based on the threat level and goal of the mission. Jedi can sometimes be found in charge of these missions, but due to the design nature ingrained in the Taskforce, each team and squad are issued, beyond the core members, additional logistics and support, from anything from starships and armed guards, to specialist weapons and gear that are kept in mind for the local and stated goals of the mission. A recon effort that wants to take several dozen fully armed Taskforce Troopers would get strange looks, while an assault team requesting diplomatic specialists, the same. Each deployment made by the Taskforce is designed for the mission, with emergency response teams on stand by, should they be needed. Standard Taskforce Troopers wear a white and orange combat armor that utilizes higher quality materials than the standard Republic Trooper. Their main weapon is a Heavy Blaster Carbine, taking on a lack of automatic fire and increased weight for increased range and raw hitting power, with a specific design in mind for punching through the old Sith Trooper armor and other heavier individual combat armors they might have to face. Beyond this, the armor is modular, capable of taking on various accessories and attachments to support experimental gear and weapons, alongside more reliable and commonplace equipment, depending on the troopers needs. Beyond these men, anyone the Taskforce finds useful could be tapped with impunity. From veteran Commandos from other Republic forces, skilled mercenaries and smugglers, spies and an acceptance of Jedi when they arrive, recruitment is left to the discretion of the Commander. ST E-217 only has a small number of actual vessels permanently seconded to their command, instead having to requisition more for large scale mobilizations from their operations center on a space station kept well clear of any planets or celestial bodies, in a location kept secure from knowledge by most, only those who need to be able to get their on their own, and they have to memorize such things, and cannot rely on databases or the like due to the fact they could be more easily hacked and stolen. This station has its own personal fighter and bomber wings stationed, ready to scramble and defend against enemies in case they are found, at any one time, while the station shielding and defenses are also, while classified, no doubt capable of fending off most conventional attacks. It is immobile, however, and should it be discovered, could be the target for enemy actions beyond its defensive range.
[hider2= The Sith Empire Remnants] As far as many in the Republic are concerned, only a handful of holdouts are left of the Sith Empire that, under the rule of Naga Sadow over 1000 years ago threatened the Galactic Republic during the Great Hyperspace Wars that resulted in the eventual fracturing of the Sith Empire. However, while hunters and groups such as ST E-217 pursued those too foolish or obvious to remain hidden, and think their goals successful over the many long years, the Sith Empire regrew in secret, outside the sphere of the Galactic Republic. Reclaiming planet after planet, and system after system, in utter secrecy, the true Sith Empire reformed under new leadership, unknown to all but the closest, most powerful and loyal members of the new Empire, while this mysterious Lord, or Lady, of the Sith operated through intermediaries and cloak and mirror, leaving nothing but their undisputed power unnoticed. With the increasing, and newly founded, power base growing, the old Sith Empire Remnants, as they were still so foolishly referred to, began rebuilding its armed forces. Force sensitive apprentices were taken and trained in the Sith ways, spawning powerful Marauders and Sorcerers to lead the both hired, and trained, forces being rebuilt en masse. Sith Troopers, Mercenaries, Bounty Hunters, Pirates, and any who would take Sith pay were taken, the rebuilding Empire having far fewer qualms, if any, about whom served them as the Republic did, so long as the soldiers swore their fealty to the Sith Empire above all others. Through some, it was paid contracts, but for others that gained status, it was through true fealty. Inspiring fierce hatred for the Republic banded the new Sith Empire together, utilizing criminal networks and their own resources to rebuild. Sith Troopers were retrained and reequipped, leaving the mercenaries and bounty hunters that were unproven as front line troops, to help maintain the illusion of a broken former Empire. Rumors abound about how much power the Sith Empire Remnants have really attained, with powerful figures all vying for power and favor in the eyes of the overall ruler of the regrouping Sith Empire, for the opportunity to rule as they see fit and garner more power for themselves. Vengeance and hate drove many, and in hushed tones in cantinas and places of questionable repute, rumors of a new weapon, linked to the Republic's discovery of a well patrolled system utterly whiped out, was not only built, but tested, and that the incident on the Republic borders was only the beginning. But, whether or not the Republic would believe such things, was another story completely, since Sith Assassins, and hired bounty hunters, killed any who might know of this mysterious project, only those of some standing and need actually being briefed on the project itself, to ensure as few chances of Republic discovery exist as possible. The Sith Empire Remnants commnand a growing force of, albiet mixed, space assets and planets, from stolen and reclaimed to purchased and commissioned, no one Sith Empire Remnant force looks alike to another, although the ground forces employed have some uniformity, their specialized agents do not, from Marauders and Sorcerers to free lance assassins and mercenaries, whoever has the talent, gets noticed and gain what they desire, whether its credits, or something more intangiable, more abstract then mere money. Sith Troopers currently dont uniformly wear any one type of armor, although slanted and heavier armor is preferred, using deflection to ease the damage done to armor in an effort to reduce the effect of sheer power on damage, while weapons depend on the individual Troopers requirement. What is certain now, more then ever, is the Republic fails to see more than a mere shadow of an old enemy looming on the horizon, ready to swoop down in another Hyperspace War, with a far darker outcome for the Galactic Republic. It is now only a matter of time and attrition. [/hider2] --- So, this RP will be run in an episodic manner, with the plot moving forward based on the actions and success (or failure) of each side in each episode. The Sith come out on top one episode, the reprecussions might show up later on in another episode, and vice versa. And there might be a case where the Republic might win the battle, but still suffer in the long run for one reason or another. So, keep that in mind IC wise, your character might need to consider whats going on in the long and short term (If thats something they care about, of course) before acting. Just some food for thought. And there will be some downtime if folks want it for character development between allies. Beyond this, I'll keep a chronicle of the summary of the events going on and outcome of past Episodes, so this way, its easy for folks to jump in later on. They can check out the summarized episode list, get a gist of whats going on, so on and so on. And that is another note, even after we start, this will remain open to new players, since it wont be normally too difficult to find a good place to slot a person in, even mid episode, since more than just the player characters will be active at any one time, so no worries there either. --- Alright, we all know em and love em, so here are a coupe guidelines/rules to keep in mind for all you fine folks. 1.Should go without saying at this point, but don't godmod, metagame, kill others without permission, keep romance PG13 where everyone else can see it (And if the parties involved want to progress further, take it to Pms), and all that jazz. 2.Some folks are going to be playing some powerful folks, certainly, but keep in mind, no one is unstoppable. Everyone has weakness, strengths, personality flaws and traits, all that. Just something to keep in mind when designing your characters. This is war, so people can die as well, so if someone does kick the bucket, feel free to roll up a new character and jump right back in. 3.Just a note rather than an actual rule, but I'll be, once we are ready to start, getting PM threads set up for folks on both sides, so information that those characters would know can be more easily spread and plans can be formed more easily. 4.Treat each other, at least OOCily, with some respect and courtesy. I dont expect perfect harmony and agreement from people at all times, but act like adults, and we're cool. 5.I tend to prefer a quality over quantity when it comes to posts, but try to get at least one paragraph down if at all possible. And if you can't post, for whatever reason, just say something in PM or OOC wise. Whatever the reason, I don't mind holding someone's character NPC wise if something came up. I do reserve the right to move on over folks if they vanish without saying anything. 6.Have fun! There isn't much point if it becomes a chore, so if anyone has questions, comments, concerns, ideas, and such, post them or PM them, I'll work with anyone who has concerns or questions to the best of my ability. 7.Some other notes and guidelines. The year is 3900 BBY, keep that in mind. There aren't TIE Fighters or other iconic fighters and craft like that. Generally, the movie stuff wont be seen, at all. Think more Knights of the Old Republic for a tech base. I wont be a stickler for precision, since specific tech info is sparse, but as long it makes sense for the time period, we're cool. Same goes for powers and techniques not developed yet, for the same reasons. Roles on both sides are pretty open, but the CO of the Taskforce, and the Dark Lord/Lady of the Sith Empire Remnants, I will be managing those two roles. --- Alright, with them out of the way, here's a basic CS skeleton to work off, but feel free to add whatever you feel necessary. This is by no means comprehensive, nor do I intend it to be, just covering vital stuff. I'll leave the (hopefully) self explanatory stuff blank. Name: Gender: Species: Age: Some species are longer lived than others, but keep in mind, if a human is 90 something years old, odds are, they aren't a soldier on the front lines much anymore. Homeworld: Physical Appearance: Feel free to use an image or description, or a combination of the two. Try to keep the blatently anime stuff to a minimum (Don't got a problem with the art style, just doesn't fit very well for Star Wars in my humble opinion). No problem with other artforms, drawings, and such though. I would appreciate at least a paragraph for a typed description of their physical appearance. Personality: What kind of person are they under fire, off duty, on the job, dealing with friends, family, enemies, ect ect? I figure get at least a paragraph here, so folks have a baseline to expect as the character develops. (Sidenote: I usually consider a paragraph about 4-5 complete sentences. Skills: What training and abilities does your character have? Equipment: What kind of weapons, tools, and other personal belongings does this person have? Powers: This is a force user only section, all you folks that don't have that force connection, feel free to drop this section, blank it, N/a it, whatever floats your boat. Flaws: Is your character narcassistic to a fault, unable to pilot a ship to save his life, what might hinder and make things challenging for your character? Personal History: This one will be at least 2-3 paragraphs, at least. Where are they from, what molded them growing up, why are they serving who they serve, and what kind of history do they have together? Lot of stuff can be covered, so I don't reckon 2-3 paragraphs will be that hard. Extra/Other: Anything I miss above, that you think needs noted? Go for it here, or modify the CS and add it yourself! Just make sure everything is addressed before adding more, please and thank you.
