@Wilson

I hope it's not an issue, but I wrote that your Varren and Explorer ships arrived in an uncharted system, where two Temple class Cruisers were mining for minerals. I can change it, if need be ^^'

They only have two charted systems: System 1, their home System, and System 2, the neighboring system home to the Nouvellians.

In response to Duck, I say that I am directly next to the Nouvellians, and the next closest 'group' is Earth/Terra/Sol System. That's what I'd prefer. Maybe with the Nouvellians between?

Duck you are going to get those diplomats shot, approaching a bunch of nervous Aradites usually leads to people getting killed. They are going to see you reinforcing your position as another red flag, but im game for a good fight!

Oh and Abe, I was going to extract that sniper team I have on Nouvelle but I do want to make at least one instance of contact. Like some farmer sees them taking down their position or sees them running to the extraction ship.

I have one system : Shao IX. I guess I will put it somewhere between Sol and Nouvelle but offset up or down some, so there is some distance between me, the Nouvellians and Sol/Terra.

They did finally translate your language.
And in the post it says they approached but stayed far away enough to not provoke them.

Well, first contact isn't always peaceful... If humans ever made contact, I can almost guarantee it wouldn't be 100% smooth sailing

We really need some FTL rules. otherwise people are going to jump out of battles whenever they are about to lose. Like, require a charging time.

I tried that, suggesting anywhere from just having it produce too much heat to keep it too far from the hull, to making it so that people can only warp in and out from the edge of a system to the edge of a system. Naturally, everyone decided that I was just demanding that we change FTL from system-edges only, and beat it down.

I'm just surprised that Duck's ships are so advanced and their FTL drives are so efficient and powerful that they went from null to ready to warp before enemy barrage fire could hit them.

Weaknesses for each faction regarding FTl should be unique, and te player should impose their own restrictions. For example, some might have instant warp, but be inactive for a short period at the destination, vulnerable to attack. Others might charge up, but be perfectly functional at their destination. Just stuff like that, i think, is best, rather than have everyone follow the same rules

Their FTL is extremely advanced, not necessarily the entire ship.

Valkians have special FTL that is by no means actually "moving," but rather closer to teleporting. If they use traditional FTL drives, then a Valkian will, quite simply, 'see' everything on the way to the destination, so even in space, that'd literally make their brains give up and die from the inability to process so much information at once. So, they always go into cryosleep right before jumping, and then the entire ship is demolecularized and reformed wherever they need it to be. Because of this, ships are much more likely to remain strong and sturdy as long as they teleport from the edge of a system to another, since there is far less outside a system than in. The more dust and such that's around, the less likely the metals will stay as strong. Molecular deterioration, as they say.

Ethereals use quantum entanglement principles to teleport to different destinations. However, as they are connected to their 'bodies' through a remote connection, they must reconnect once at the destination, taking on average five to ten minutes for everything to be returned to normal. Also, the ship must manually convert itself from antimatter back to matter, so no in atmosphere warping. Or boom.
