AT-ATs don't have lower hanger bays for dropping them out off. You're thinking (I think) of the clone wars when they drop AT-TEs in space out of a venator. Not every ship has those rear bays mainly star destroyers for docking resupply vessels. 

Anyway as I said, it doens't matter right now.
