Charlotte didn’t have time to react as her Daddy swung his drill at the Big Sister. Her joy at seeing her Daddy defend her was short-lived as the Big Sister’s leg kicked her slightly to the ground. She made a huff, catching her breath. All three metal figures were a good distance from each other, Charlotte still in the middle. She looked up to her Daddy, reaching out to him in preparation for the protector to hoist the small girl on its shoulder. The Daddy emitted a low groan, facing the Big Sister who lay injured beside an old cosmetic surgery clinic. “Daddy!” she cheered as she pulled herself to her feet, brushing her dress down. Her Daddy paid her no mind, its focus taken by the Alpha Daddy. It dashed toward it, hoping to eliminate the last threat to its charge. Before she knew it, the wind was knocked out of her once more and a sharp gasp escaped her. She felt the rough grip of the skinnier Daddy around her waist as she reached her arms out toward her infuriated protector. She let out a high, blood curdling scream, one that only a child could make, as she tried to thrash about. She could hear her protector bellowed in extreme aggression at the other Daddy. Charlotte tried to kick her feet in hope of landing a blow at her abductor but the way it carried her made it difficult. She was practically dangling off its arm. “Let me go! Let me go!” she screamed. The skinny Daddy didn’t seem to notice, running unsuspectingly near the injured Big Sister and through the doors of the clinic. Her scream intensified when unfamiliar faces appeared on the other side of the door only to be eased when she noticed they weren’t like the others. Her vision blurred with shock but she could tell that these were the usual human inhabitants of the city. They didn’t look crazy and they lacked usual ADAM-abusing features. There was a woman and a few men, all wearing very nice clothes. Looking at the men, she noticed one with light facial hair. Her eyes narrowed but quickly grew wide open. “Papa?” she questioned. A smile had stretched across her face in excitement as she began to thrash about in the Big Daddy’s grasp once more. She looked over the man more carefully and as she did so she came to the realization that it was not her father. He didn’t even sound like him as he spoke to her abductor. She could feel her eyes swell up with tears as her thrashing became more erratic. “Let me go!” she demanded again. “Down, down down!” She bit down on the padded arm of the Big Daddy in what she knew to be a futile effort of escaping. Before she could make another attempt at freeing herself a splicer she had not noticed brushed past her. She followed, wide eyed, and turned to look out a shattered window just in time to see a green mist enter her protector. “NO!” She screamed. She watched as her protector moaned in frustration as it tried to fight the intruder. “No, no no! DADDY!” It didn’t take long before her Big Daddy’s movements calmed down and the red light of his helmet slowly faded to green. The green light was different. It wasn't the usual, familiar green light Charlotte was used to.. This one was a little darker in hue, the same shade of the mist. It was in control of her protector. As the possessed Bid Daddy approached them she felt her heart sink. For the first time in years, since the separation from her parents, Charlotte felt alone. The one thing that she knew would always protect her was gone, replaced by something that…that just wasn’t him. For the first time in years, Charlotte didn’t fight to suppress her emotions and wept.
