Halon gas is a real thing. It used to be used to fight fires in massive computers. If something overheated, Halon was released, and all operatives had to be out of the room within a minute, or risk death. The removal of all oxygen makes a fire reaction impossible, and thus prevents anything from burning, regardless of it's temperature.
