A Harry Potter RP between myself and JDLPorsta.
Harry gets sorted into Slytherin and Hermione gets sorted into Ravenclaw, soon befriending Luna and Cho, while Harry befriends Draco. Ron remains in Gryffindor with his sister and the canon events are soon going in new directions. We have decided to outline the previous years at Hogwarts to bring up to when we're kicking things off which is at the start of their Fifth Year together.
First year: Everything is canon up until the sorting when the Hat refuses to place Harry in Gryffindor and instead places him in Slytherin. The first year is quite hellish for Harry there. He is bullied incessantly for being a Half-blood which causes him to retreat into his studies and books. The bullying causes him to lose a great deal of his innocence and naivety. He is fairly absent for the most part this year aside from developing a friendship with Hagrid and excelling in his classes. He pieces together the bits about the philosopher's stone and goes to stop Quirrell. Malfoy notices this and follows Harry. The two form a tentative alliance and stop Quirell akin to what happened in the books. Some further notes on first year would be that Harry still sees his family in the Mirror of Erised, Snape is decidedly neutral towards Harry, and Ron is somewhat antagonistic. Summer is spent entirely at the Dursely's, Dumbledore forbidding Harry from staying with the Malfoys.
Second Year: Things change a great deal this year for Harry. Draco convinces him to try out for the House Quidditch team which allows him to gain some measure of respect within the House. Furthermore, once it is revealed that Harry is a parselmouth, he takes advantage of this fact and consolidates his power base amongst the first, second, and a few of the third year Slytherins with Draco as his right hand man. A few of the more brutish upper years would hex Harry soundly in hopes that he would lose his position. Snape observes and offers Harry tutoring in defensive spells. The man is still extremely chilly towards Harry despite the weekly training. Near the end of the year, Lockhart would actually force Harry down to the chamber of secrets trying to escape from having to deal with the monster by himself. Events occur similar to the book, but rather than receiving Gryffindor's sword Harry confuses the Basilisk with parseltongue and causes it to eat the diary thereby killing Riddle. Harry tells the basilisk to go to sleep and pulls Ginny out. Summer is much the same as the previous.
Third Year: Pretty much canonical only with more of Slytherin House falling under Harry's powerbase. Sirius Black still attempts to break into Gryffindor tower and Harry grows increasingly paranoid and obsessed with training so that he can receive revenge. Snape takes pleasure in telling Harry about the failings of Sirius during the man's youth. Harry's relationship with Remus is somewhat tense considering Snape's influence, but he still ends up learning the Patronus charm. Events near the end of the year occur much as they did in canon, only without the swarm of dementors. Peter escapes and Sirius is now on the run.
Fourth Year: Once again, almost identical to canon aside from Harry receiving even more intensive lessons with Snape for the tournament. He begins learning the basics of occulumency though finds it incredibly difficult. For the Yule Ball, he takes Daphne Greengrass and the two date for a brief while. The stress of the tournament and Daphne's opinion on muggleborns causes Harry to break it off. During the tournament, Harry begins learning some slightly questionable magic. Draco and he grow much closer this year, forming a strong bond. Girls being the main topic, but also Draco tutoring Harry in potions. The year ends with Cedric dead and Voldemort revived. The world state at the start of fifth year is much the same as canon. The main difference being a more intelligent and stronger Harry, no Golden Trio, and a better relationship with Snape/Malfoy.
First Year - Hermione still finds Harry and Ron on the train but thinks nothing of it. She arrives at the Hall and is quickly put into Ravenclaw. She spends her time reading, burrowing books from the other students be them any Year. She still feels like she's left out since she's new to the school. She spends a lot of time reading outside during the breaks and when Halloween rolls around, Draco and Harry end up saving her which in turn makes Draco mock her and taunt her because she needed their help. But she did cover for the boys which gives them some kind of trust in her, in knowing that she isn't a total stuck up bookworm. During the year she makes some close friends and do well in school. When she goes back home, she has a few muggle born friends over but overall things are low key.
Second Year - She hasn't had many interactions with Ron nor Harry or Draco. She ends up becoming a tutor for some of the first years with their wide doe eyes. Hermione ends up befriending Luna who is also new (or is she two years younger?) to the school and the pair become quick friends which allows Luna to become more accepted, at least by those in her House. Hermione ends up growing concerned about the recent events and does her best to research on her own. She finds Harry in the library and lends him a hand before she quickly leaves, uncertain about him due to his friendship with Draco Malfoy. When the year is over, she's feeling much more comfortable at Hogwarts with her grow of friends but she still finds something lacking.
Third Year - She uses her Time Turner to go to several classes since tutoring isn't enough to keep her busy the way she hopes. If she throws herself into school, she assumes whatever feels 'off' to her will go away but it isn't the case. She ends up leading a very quiet year and shows concern for Harry when he's in the hospital after falling off his broomstick. She visits him with some of her friends and offers a small gift to him. She chats with Draco while Harry rests and though he is still a bit of a git, he does see that she cares about Harry in a way that most others seem to fake and he doesn't want anyone taking advantage of Harry the way other students try to do to Draco because of last name and growing reputation.
Fourth Year - She begins dating Krum when he arrives at school. She lets her grades slip due to this and in turn she starts to have fun, something she hasn't really done since her first year. Hermione goes to the Yule Ball with Krum and has a nice evening with the other chosen victors. She ends the night on a high note this time and is always there to root for Cedric and Harry during the tense tasks. When the year ends, she isn't sure what to think anymore. She has little to go on, in terms of Voldemort's return but she is in the minority that Harry is being honest and that it's logical that Voldemort could find a way to come back. She tells him on the train with Draco that she and Luna believe in him and that they'll lend their help if ever needed. That summer Hermione spends most of her time with Luna, trying to help balance out the writing in the paper about Harry and Dunbledore.
I think touching upon their interactions together will also be usefu now they're settling into our proper thread. I said I could control Draco but if you wish to use him, feel free. And so we would want to kick things off with Slughorn coming back...oh wait that's Sixth Year huh? Well Umbridge coming in and shaking things up would really but Harry and Draco's connection to the test. I would like to say that by this point, Draco is less of an evil sort of guy who causes trouble, to just someone with a lot of pride and a lot to prove, that he isn't just a Maltoy and that having friends like Harry, who aren't mindless slaves, can be rather nice.
