Tentative title, of course.

Note: DanMachi, otherwise known as 'Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou Ka?' or 'Is it Wrong to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon?', and Tate no Yuusha (full title Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari, or "The Rise of the Shield Hero") are two different Japanese light novel series.

So after reading these two series through (at least to their current point in translation), I got motivated to check and see if anyone else had any interest in an RP taking mechanics from these two worlds and placing them together (with some added modifications, of course).

What I had in mind was a new world wherein the god of this world (you know, figures from old mythos such as Ra and Zeus and the like) get bored of the world that 'we' live in and decide to create a new one. In this attempt, the deities take influence from the humans that have kind of gone off on their own at this point in our world and implement a pseudo-stat system (thus DanMachi) and also decide to take more proactive moves in this new world as physical entities.

As for the Tate no Yuusha influence, each deity has sealed away their power (not all of it!) in an artifact somewhere in the world that only reacts to one other being. That being, once he/she/it finds the weapon, is bound to it permanently (aka can't be sold/traded/thrown away/etc;) but can use the world around him to make the weapon stronger.

RPing as the gods will probably not be a thing, even if they're all basically on the same level at this point in time.

I have a more fleshed-out idea floating around in my head, but I'd like to see if anyone's interested in it first before I go more in-depth in creating a world and setting up the mechanics and the like.

Mmm... Alright. Are there any questions you have about the proposal so far?

Well, one would probably be about the gods that created the realm. Which ones were involved? Is it just all of them, or a specific group? Also, is each weapon going to be specific to a god(as in their elements, shape(Poseidon's trident, death's scythe) or astras))?

Well, I was thinking that it would be more 'every god was technically involved, but some may have come in later or earlier than others'. So someone like, say, Hermes could possibly have more of a following than someone like, say, Zeus.

(I'll probably use 1d20 to determine their influence over the realm aka how long they've been around).

Each weapon I was thinking would have two forms, one in the weapon's natural state (like, as you stated earlier, Poseidon's trident) and one in a "sealed" form. In theory, his trident could be sitting at the bottom of the sea as a seashell for all we know.

I'm pretty interested in this, it sounds pretty good.

Well, since interest is starting to pop up I'll propose some more stuff to you guys; tell me if it's too outlandish or too strange for the scenario, all right?

For the pseudo-stat system, abilities only come into play once a deity has taken a character under their wing... so to speak. As in DanMachi, the 'interference' of a deity is necessary for stats to rise, which is in turn based on experience gained during fights and the like. Artifacts can also be used to fill this role, but only for the user thereof.

There is no such thing as HP/MP/SP here; instead there's Str, Spe, Mag, which should all be pretty self-explanatory. This won't work like a regular tabletop where rolls and everything are put into play; instead, characters can use them to gauge how strong/fast they are relative to the past. Monsters don't have stats - rather, text context will be given to the abilities of a monster and their strengths.

Humans won't be the only race in the RP; elves, dwarves, beastmen, elementals, draconids (lizard-esque humanoids) and fey all exist within the world (along with various other things that may or may not exist as NPCs/enemies).

The local residents of the universe don't know that things like stats are derived from a game. They don't have things like that in existence.

Just because a god is "evil" in their old pantheon doesn't mean that they are in this universe, and vice versa. Who knows, Orochi might be a chill dude to hang with or Aphrodite might be secretly plotting to take over the place.

(This confirms nothing, by the way. Just examples.)

On that note, deities don't have to take the same form they traditionally took in out world. I'll leave how that is interpreted up to you guys.

A universal language does exist to make things easier for everyone. Let's just say it's English to save time and headaches.

Alright, it sounds pretty solid so far. I see nothng wrong with the deities and while the stats are a little vague, they're still solid and can be well implemented. A few things I'm wondering, however.

So I've read a little of danmachi before (not much) and I'm kind of wondering if you'll implement the skills system or not (I barely know how it works anyway, I just know it's there and am wondering if you're going to use it). Also, I'm kind of confused about the whole 'create a new world' idea and how the characters would fit into the concept. What are the players doing?

I mean, you said something about the gods sealing their powers in weapons and they only correspond to one other dude, but you haven't given us any context as to why they did that. On the subject of context, you haven't really given us much.

This is all just nit picky stuff but I'm curious. Basically, you need more context before pretty much anything. The ideas are solid, but they lack the context necessary to utilize them. I think.

I'm not going to implement the skills system... Probably. It has the potential to be either incredibly limiting for the player or create some impossibly strong characters if the RNG favors them.

This world exists because the world that the deities used to exist in has developed to such a point where they're seen as irrelevant and unneeded, and thus created the new world to... Well, to put it bluntly, to be looked up to/worshiped again.

Similar to DanMachi, currency can be obtained from monsters and their drops by means of trading, so it's perfectly viable to be an adventurer.

The motivation for the character... Well, that'd probably be up to the creator. It's a world based around exploration, so people could be motivated by money (as mentioned before), fame, or the thrill of finding something new... Just to name a few examples.

The gods seal their power away for much of the same reason as in DanMachi- so that none of them have too overpowering of an advantage over every other. It's kind of a measure to make sure that nobody gets shafted and everybody technically has a chance in the spotlight (as was the case in many myths, as we've seen). It's also fun to champion an adventurer who does something huge and get part of the credit for it... Or something like that.

Alright, that clears up a few things.

Well, if that's all the questions you have for now I'll be updating the first post with a form before I start making the actual RP itself.

I'm not very good at advertising or drumming up enthusiasm for stuff though, lol. I think we can start off with two or three and build up from there for now, though; I'll always have it open to the general public.

Oh right, I should say that I'll probably end up PMing the stat values I have every time someone decides to update and upon creation. Probably. Same reason as DanMachi because reasons.

Everything I've listed up above, more or less. I'm in a bit of a busy spot trying to get work for the weekend done, so I won't be updating the main post quite yet. I'll do that when I have a bit more free time.
