I apologise if the image is too large, I can't seem to find a spoiler/hider option, and I'm not sure how to resize. Sorry!

Slice of Life, 5 Players in total. 5 line minimum per post. I have a writing sample attached, which can double as a starting post too. I'd prefer one from those whom are interested, too. I do not have a lot plot wise, as I thought this could be brilliant for as free-flow narrative style.

Setting: Currently undecided. It WILL occur in a small, quite religious town. The country isn't yet picked. This will be set in the modern era, so cell phones, the internet, and so on, are all allowed.

Plot: Well, this is where things hopefully become a bit more unique, I hope. There will still be a basic plot in place, but..

Our characters are all "Different" from what the townspeople may consider to be the social "norm". The reasons can vary from character to character, and do not need to be shared between characters at all. They'd all be in a small group together, bonded by the one thing they all have in common. That they are outcasts of the town's social groups.

The ages of the characters can also vary, though I'd prefer to keep them between, say, 12 or 13, and 18/19.

Romance can be used, but if so, I feel like it should be agreed between the two people playing them in advance. For my character Lily, romance is NOT an option. I only want friends or an sibling type of relationship for her between the other characters.

But, other then that, feel free to do as you wish.

Credit goes to my friend, Exmedic for drawing me Lily.

Born on December the 24th 2002, Liam is the shy and quiet sort of chap, much preferring to be in the background and not intervene in things going on around them. This is primarily due to his lack of self-confidence, not helped by the fact he harbours a naturally shy nature, lacking any form of assertiveness at all. This is due to the fact the young child was often shifted from foster home to foster home, never really settling in anywhere for very long. With just one exception.

Only one person ever did attempt to help and support Liam. Her name was Rosie, and at 25 years old, she had discovered she’d never bare any children of her own. The news broke her heart, and she no longer felt like she’d ever have a family. Untill she found Liam walking home from school one night, lost and alone, scared and hungry. She felt the need to help him and took the young child back to the orphanage, where an idea struck her.

Become a foster mom.

At the recommendation of a worker, Liam and Rosie were paired together, and all seemed happy. The woman was as loving and protective of Liam as a birth mother would be, and though she’d spoil him often, she brought him up to be a loving and respectful young man, with a big heart. She even managed to get him out of his shell in public situations, an accomplishment previously thought impossible by others.

He’d been living with her for nearly two years, and permanent adoption was well underway. Unfortunately, just two days prior to the official verdict, the young woman was kidnapped before Liam’s eyes, causing him to become an emotional wreck for months afterwards, and nearly silent for the best part of 6 years, hardly uttering a word to anybody unless he needed to do so.

Thankfully after this, Liam didn’t end up in abusive or neglectful homes, but none wanted to deal with what they saw as a troubled child. They didn’t understand he couldn’t attach himself to anybody, scared of losing them like he did Rosie. They thought he was cold, unloving.

Dreadfully frightened of thunderstorms, he doesn't really like to be left alone during them, and will usually remain wide awake and terrified when alone, not able to sleep through the noise or the sudden bright lights. As such, Liam often remains awake all night, crying in fear and a need to be back with the mother who loved him.

Liam wants to be known, and identify as Lily-Rose, knowing he was born into the wrong body. To Liam, he is, and should be a female, not a male. Caught when trying on the dress of a foster sister, he was sent straight back into care by the father of the family, a strongly religious sort of person.

Unfortunately for Lily, this news got out fast. Now the centre of ridicule and bulling both in school, and in the safe house, he has been forced to act like Liam once more, much to her dismay. All she wants is to be who she truly is, and to have Rosie back, the only person she ever called “Mom”.

Despite the hell she used to experience in the "Safe house", Lily was befriended by an older girl, known as Morrigan. The two formed a fast, and seemingly unlikely bond. Lily was small and feminine, soft and quiet. Morrigan came across as loud, rough and more masculine, with a huge height difference to Lily.

Yet, they were very close, almost like sisters. In fact, that wasn't to far off the mark. They were, in fact, blood related. Cousins, to be exact.

Now, Lily spends nearly all her time with Morrigan, whom she has taken to calling Rigan. Lily adores the older female and looks up to her like a sister, and, to see them apart is very rare indeed, unless Lily is at school, or not allowed to go see the older female.
_____

Sample:

Limping up the almost empty rain soaked streets, Liam wiped away the tears from his face, ensuring no more blood remained under or around his mouth in the process. He'd been set upon by a pair of classmates on his way home from school, in an attempt to "get rid of the gay!", as they put it. He knew he looked a mess, shirt torn and splattered with mud and his own blood, a tooth knocked out. His nose had been bleeding, and his glasses broken, leaving a cut in his nose. It hurt to put too much weight on his ankle, and he was almost positive he'd dislocated it...but he couldn't face up to the reason WHY he’d been attacked, feeling too ashamed to do so.

Earlier that day hadn't gone too well either, with Liam making a fool of himself in front of his class..

/"Being born into the wrong body can be one of the worst things a person may ever have to face. Physically or emotionally. The struggle to accept yourself, and thereafter to be accepted by others.

The hate faced by others towards you, just because you want to be who you truly are within. The comments, the spiteful behaviour, the kicks. The punches.

Who you feel you are. Who you have the right to be. You all get to have that human right. But I don't. Because wanting to be a woman? That's "wrong" in your eyes. "Disgusting", "Evil"..."

Shaking with emotion, Liam's tear-filled eyes had run back over the words on the paper in his hands as the words passed his lips, hoping that someone... /Anyone/ would take the words he spoke and think again about the actions they undertook. The words they spoke. But he doubted it.

"You deserved it. I'm glad it happened to you!" A voice, deep and rough, had broken through Liam's speech, drawing attention to the newest speaker. "Freaks like you deserve it! Too bad you weren't killed!"

A few cheers had greeted this acclimation, mingling with a few "Yeah!"s or "FREAK!"

With that, Liam had ran from the classroom as fast as he could, looking to hide underneath the bleachers, where it was quiet. The rain had continued to thunder down upon him, drenching him, but he no longer cared./
He needed help now, from anybody. Spotting the salon, he took a deep breath and entered it. He’d heard some students talking about it, saying the staff were always professional and kind to them when they went to have sessions. He knew it was probably just them being kind to make more money, but…

“Help me..” Liam’s voice was soft and frightened, the footsteps of his assailants coming behind him, knowing full well that they had followed him up there. People were in here, so maybe they’d leave him be…"

I am interested in this role play- if it is done appropriately.
I know YOU personally would not misuse this topic; but others might and I don't like that!

So I will be watching :)

PS; the hider tag is similar to the url coding!
If you press "view raw" on the side of my post you can see it below.

Thanks! I'll edit in a hider when I'm on a computer, as my 3DS is trying to remove half my post when I edit. >.>

Appropriately done shouldn't be an issue, I hope. One user who asked me about this in the IRC I trust, then there's me. If you joined, we'd be at 3 of the 5 players already.

No problem!
Oh man, I can't imagine working on a 3Ds- good on ya!

:) Okay, good. I just don't want anyone getting hurt because someone is inappropriate about something.
Have you decided on the area yet? I can see somewhere like South Dakota or Kansas. Maybe even down south.
If out of the USA, I have no clue on where xD But if in the USA, I could probably think of plenty of tiny religious towns.

I'm not sure what I would do to make my character different yet- but I will think about it.

The town will certainly be fictional, I know as much as that.

I personally love the idea of a river or lakeside town myself. To givd it history, and to cement the town in place more, I was thinking..

Work on the town will have started in roughly 1912, then was left to focus on the war efforts during the first World War. Following this, the town was completed just a few months before the Great Depression, and an economic downfall. Struggling, a local man and a few friends started a Tugboat company, working on supporting local logging companies.

During WW2, the town was commendered for use as a place to store weapons and such, which lead to part being destroyed in a fire, which killed almost half the tiny town's 200 population.

Abandoned after this, the town was rebuilt in the 1960's by a rich man, looking for somewhere to expand on his own Tugging company, and to give his workers homes. Being highly religious, he had a large church built, and only really hired Christian workers, something which has remained a strong symbol of the town's community.

Hmm a calm slice of life sounds nice although I personally am not religious so I can't have a religious character, but hey that's how the guy would be different I guess.

I had my guy's back story worked out and everything; it was gonna turn out that the villain wiped his memory and he actually had a wife and kids the whole time, which is why I was really really interested to see how our characters interacted. :p

Anywho, I've finished my part. Hopefully y'all like it, and don't worry, nobody has to worry about me not writing this character and his issues (or lack of issues) properly. Enjoy!

From the moment he was born on the second of October in 1996, Aaron Deerling's parents had his life practically mapped out for him. They knew what school they were going to send him to, what kind of clothes he would wear, which instrument he was going to master and which teacher was going to help him master it. What they didn't count on was their son growing up with a serious lack of ambition. Aaron had no interest in succeeding professionally, though he does have a healthy interest in life. He would much rather sit in a camping chair, stare at the sky and listen to life than do anything academically satisfying. He is a sensual man that way, he enjoys touching things, looking at beautiful paintings, and listening to music. (that part his parents did succeed in hammering into his brain; love of the universal language, especially classical music and even Broadway musicals.)

It was his good fortune that his family decided to settle down in a small town. Aaron hates crowds and busy cities with a passion. Honking horns, people shouting, impatience, sometimes he just can't deal with it. Drama in general is a no-fly zone with Aaron. Before he turned eighteen, he was a nervous wreck. Every new day held something difficult to deal with, speaking in class, making excuses to teachers, even going into the store to buy something. It felt like everyone was watching him make an ass of himself. Thankfully, once he started working part time as a cashier at a convenience store close to home, most of these fears either dissipated or became bearable. He's on a new mission now; to relax.

However, when Aaron was growing up, there seemed to be something gnawing at him. It's difficult to describe a lack of something, but it's easy to feel it. Aaron felt it, and he heard things. Puberty came and went, and soon his started to hear his friends and peers talking about dating. Girls, checking out chicks, going to the movies, making out. It felt...foreign. Aaron understood what they were talking about, movies and television had taught him enough, and he had definitely gotten 'the talk' from his folks. But with him, it just didn't seem to click. There was no urge to do what they were doing. Dating and even kissing had no appeal to him, and not because he was busy doing other things. He had no fantasies about men, either. It wasn't about wanting something else, it was about not wanting anything at all.

For a long time, Aaron ignored it. He assumed that he just hadn't found someone he liked enough, or maybe he was just slower than everyone else, or probably everyone else was just obsessed with sex and he was the only normal one. In any case, one day he did a little research online and found a word: asexual. It was an eye opening evening, to find out in one fell swoop that he wasn't broken, that he wasn't wrong, and that he wasn't alone. It was so exciting to him that he felt like shouting it from the rooftops, or at least to his friends and parents. That's when the troubles started. And the questions, the disbelief, the doubt and the ostracizing. Half the school seemed to think he had been abused, or that he had been castrated. His parents prayed for him nightly. Aaron knew that it wasn't as anywhere near as bad as some people had it, but on certain days it definitely stung. Now he just tries to keep his head down and his mouth shut.
My Sample:

“Christ Almighty.” Aaron muttered under his breath as he trudged out of the house, rain splashing under his feet. He shuffled carefully but as quickly as he could away from the house, just wanting to get gone. His folks has been talking about him again this morning, and since the living room was right next to his bedroom, every word crept in under the door. It was the same old story: 'Where did we go wrong' this and 'we should be paying for college, not therapy' that. He didn't want to go to therapy anyway. It was just another thing they forced on him. Try to fix your kid when he ain't broke, thanks a bunch.

Aaron headed for the bus stop, puffs of warm air from his shaking lips met the cold. In his haste to get out he hadn't dressed properly. His dark brown hair, which was still wet from this morning's shower was in danger of freezing solid. Not that it mattered, the heater on the bus would be working, surely. He could drive, but he didn't own his own car, so he took the bus to school every morning. As he looked up from the shiny road and at the corner, he saw that Kyle, a fellow student, was already waiting at the bus stop. Aaron didn't bother waving. Not out of dislike, but because saying 'hi' just wasn't hip these days.

As he got within earshot of Kyle, however, Aaron said, “It's cold, huh?” Ah yes, very astute, that's why they pay you the big tuition bucks that you're not even going to use. Kyle said nothing, just shot him a look and gazed down the street as if wishing for the bus to come. In the time it did take to come, Aaron and Kyle just stood there in a very long an awkward pause. Once it did show up, Aaron climbed on board and picked the seat he always did, the front. What a square. He thought to and about himself as he put his bookbag next to him, potentially blocking anyone else from sitting next to him. It wasn't that he didn't like people, he just wasn't in the mood right now.

Aaron leaned his head towards the window, but not against it, he liked his brain to much to lean his head against it. His eyes followed the road beneath them as they drove on, the noise of the other students talking weighing down his thoughts. Aaron did this every morning; just watched and listened. Talking got in the way of feeling. Everyone was talking now, and someone behind him was tapping on the window.

“Oh my god, you're not serious-”
tap
“Was it Jennifer? I bet-”
tap
“Teachers suck, they don't understand-”
tap
“Mom said I have to wear these stupid con-”
tap
“Dude! It's like-”
tap
“-going out with Tara later tonight. She said she was gonna get all-”

Aaron's ears perked up at that last one. Sometimes curiosity grabbed him. Sometimes, he wanted to know what all the fuss was about.

He bit his lip thoughtfully before pulling his iPod and headphones out of his backpack, putting them on and drowning in challenging rhythms and witty lyrics.

Then again, sometimes he didn't really give a damn.

Okay, that's that. Let me know what you thinks. :)

The town's pastor was highly praised when he had a daughter born on a bright spring day on the 3rd of April, 1999. Definitely a gift from God as the Easter season approached. This daughter was to be named Reyna Carlson. The pastor (Robert Carlson) had met his wife (Priscilla Diaz) during a church mission trip. He brought her back from the Dominican Republic to marry her as soon as possible. The two had fell in love. Not even a year later, their one and only daughter was born. A sweet, kind, generous child Reyna grew up very naive to the world around her and often found herself in situations where her morals were pushed.

Being the pastor's daughter was a job in itself. You always have to be at church every Sunday, and any other day that it was called for. You have to have a good reputation in the eyes of all the town members. You have to have a well behaved online profile. You have to be well groomed and manicured. You have to have good grades. You have to not have sex until marriage.

It was the last one Reyna had messed up on.

Quentin was a sweet, kind, generous child as Reyna was. He went to church every Sunday with his parents and got good grades. He was a star football player at the high school and quite the good looking boy. Quentin and Reyna had gotten quite the crush on one another as they grew up together. Both of their parents found it just fine that the two were together. Often, they joked about how one day the two would get married and take on the family's church and continue to grace the town with a good faith.

Sex was something Reyna was clueless about, As Quentin fiddled with the button of her blouse in the basement of the church, she gasped in horror. "No!" she pushed away his hands rapidly, wrapping her arms around herself. This charade lasted a few months before the pressure finally kicked in. The two had unprotected sex, and before Reyna knew it she was pregnant.

With tears she came to her parents, between sobs she gasped, "I don't know what to do." Her parents were outraged. Disgusted. Humiliated. They did what they only knew how to do- pray. They prayed as they purchased a ticket for their daughter. They prayed as they told the congregation she was just off on a mission trip.

They prayed as their daughter boarded the plane back to her mother's homeland to receive an abortion.

Returning from her plane her parents greeted her as a new woman, she had been saved from this spawn inside of her. The whole congregation cheered and applaud at her return, curious of what her experience was. Through clenched teeth she explained how closer to God she felt, and how she was just happy she was now home. Reyna was a changed woman, not quite the sweet sixteen most girls in town were, but something different.
Sample:

He pressed her against the side of tree out the school hard, as his hands slammed up against the bark on either side of her curly haired head. "Quentin said you were an easy fuck if I'd like to get something sometime." the boy huffed into her soft freckled face. Her eyes stared back in horror and shook her head. "Y-y-you have the wrong girl." she stammered, trying to escape from the boy's entrapment. "You trying to say he's a liar?" the boy barked, his lips parting as he moved closer to the girl, with a hushed tone he harshly whispered, "I've seen the pictures."

Reyna pushed the boy with all her might, escaping him and heading into the school. His cackle could be heard as tears rushed down her cheeks, she went into the bathroom stall and wept. "You okay in there?" a voice could be heard from the other stall. "I'm alright." Reyna called weakly, sniffing, and wiping her eyes with her slender finger tips. Soon the door behind her open and the voice was matched with a face. Jennifer. A young girl from one of her classes. Jennifer dipped down next to her and gave Reyna a big hug. "I bet it must be tough being the pastor's daughter. Did you fail a test or something?" the girl asked quite sympathetic.

"Yeah, something like that."
