Lexi was frowning again; she seemed to be doing that a lot lately, probably because her aunt was staying for a week, and that meant lectures day in, day out. Her eyes wandered round the room and alighting on Max, she smiled. Max always cheered her up, even just by being there. Lexi had no clue why that was, possibly because of his carefree attitude, but most likely it was because, to her Max meant that she wasn’t alone, they had always been together, and would hopefully be for a long time. Max feeling her gaze, turned to look at her, he didn’t need to search for who it was, there was a choice of two people, the teacher, and Lexi. Five minutes till bell, and Lexi couldn’t wait to get out. Four, she gathered her books. Three, zipped up her bag. Two, wrapped her jumper round her waist. One … the bell had barely made a peep, and Lexi had leapt from her seat, bounding down the aisles between the desks and grabbing Max by the collar, dragging him and his half full bag out the door and across to the gate, whirling out like a hurricane, before the bell had finished ringing. “… Slow … down…” Max gasped, freeing himself from Lexi’s grip, and staggering a few paces away, panting for breath. “Oh, sorry.” She grinned, “I’ll walk you home.” Max groaned audibly, aunt Jen would be home, but no dad to keep her occupied. “Or you could come with me,” Lexi offered, “I’m sure Sensei won’t mind you watching.” “Even though I dropped out before I even graded once?” Max queried. “Yeah, come on, It’ll be fine. We can just say that there’s no one at home and you wanted to come with me.” Lexi proclaimed, striding ahead. Max hurried to keep up. “But that’s lying!” Turning round and walking backwards Lexi sighed, “Fine, you just want to watch. Happy?” And seeing Max nod she twirled back round, “Come on, I don’t want to be late.” Max sighed, Lexi was so hard to understand sometimes he thought, and dashed to catch up.
