Could they be merchants or just hire merchants to work for them as a source of income? I guess diplomats, bailiffs and such were also jobs for nobility.
It would be a lot less confusing if you just called it gold*. As for jobs, I don't know anything about that, but I've planned on making my noble house the decedents of a group of bandits that destroyed a friendless noble house that had fallen upon tough times and took over their land. As you can imagine, there will be a lot of banditry involved in my activities in this RP.
*e.g. This costs 10 gold and that costs 20 gold
