In my personal opinion he's completely unnecessary, then again I think the same of the Martian Manhunter. At least Manhunter has a decent power set though. Aquaman is what, super strong, bullet proof/pressure resistant, telepathic specifically with marine life, super fast but only in the water. Okay cool, but I mean his trident is the source of most of his power and take that away he's pretty much just a run of the mill hero. Doesn't help that his half brother/enemy can use that weapon. That'd be like Loki being able to wield Mjolnir.

Also sure Aquaman had some good moments in Flashpoint, but that was a limited run and it's not his month to month M.O.  Not to mention I kind of hate Flashpoint since it brought us the New52 which for all its benefits came at far too high of a cost.
