Well, they really don't have much of a choice but to settle in for a time. Ships all busted to hell. But.... I have an idea regarding temporary employment to purchase a ship to return home or something

How would that sound? Using your naval soldiers against a multitude of foes? Maybe hit those pirates back? 

Just want to bounce some ideas before I commit a post.
