Chains made of wood snaked from out of the magic circle beneath Meruin - it was not just any ordinary wood however, but wood summoned from a Sacred Tree. It's ability to seal off the strength and powers of whatever it caught increases whenever more wood was involved. They chased after Elza and attempted to bind her completely.

Meruin kept her eyes on Elza and ignored the shadows on her feet. A barrier once again stopped her and it came with the same debilitating curse as earlier. The shadows that grabbed her were speared through and destroyed by Meruin's hair, which was now a bit lighter in color.
