I;d be happy to see characters of one class with skills that overlap another, so long as it doesn't completely cover the second class. For example, Bons is mainly an Engineer, but has basic skill with a lance. He's not a great shot with one and he'll never get his head around a mortar lance, since he's primarily an Engineer. Also, Lancers can have rifles or pistols to keep them in the fight for longer than three shots.
And there's nothing to stop you having two characters Kitsune, since we pretty much all do at the moment XD
