 The Aperture Disaster was when a large corporation called Aperture which basically was the government's go-to contractor for Meta-problems, began trying to make a biological super-weapon called Gia. Gia was infused with the DNA of nearly every Meta and she could call upon their powers at will. She also had advanced healing. Her own brother, Doctor David Taylor was the one who did all that to her. He was an extremely powerful Meta who could steal powers with blood-samples. Essentially, he wanted to create a Meta-only society by inciting a civil war and then forcing any remaining humans to adapt powers or die. He will be killed at the end of Arc 2.
