He's got the right of this. In 1950, no one had nuclear power except for certain powers. The UK, the US and the USSR.

Actually, strike the UK. They didn't test one until 1952, though they obviously were in the loop with the US and capable of producing their own prior to that, except they had a lot of rebuilding priorities after the end of WWII that took precedence over nuclear weaponry. Canada also was fully in on the Manhattan Project. So that's four nations in 1950, all of them with the highest level of technological development.
