Climbing through the small hole in the wall Sam looked around, but the snow from last night had covered up and tracks that may have been made. “Jayna, where are you?” He asked quietly to himself. If she had been here overnight he was afraid she may have already died, either by cold or by… whatever else lives here. Strangely enough though it seemed empty and quiet now. He began following the wall, figuring he would at least not get lost doing so and walked for what felt like a very long time. Then, suddenly up ahead the boy could hear shouting.
It was a strange voice, one he did not recognise with a strange accent. Hurrying he was about to break into the clearing where the figure stood before he stopped, seeing Jayna on the ground and the boy standing over her, wielding a knife made out of a strange material he had never seen before.
“Now, do you still wish to die? Because if so I will happily kill you right here right now and throw your body back over the wall myself as a warning to anyone else foolish enough to think about coming to this place!”
A small gasp escaped his mouth and he quickly reached for his bow. Drawing back he shot quickly, without much aim or time taken. There had been no time. He wasn’t about to let Jayna die.
Luka heard a strange noise from behind him, but only made it through half a turn before he felt something piece his shoulder and he cried out in pain. The blade fell from his hand and he dropped to the ground, clutching at his shoulder as blood began oozing from the wound, following the arrow shaft down before dripping onto the ground. At the same instant there was a horrible screech, like tearing metal, the same noises as last night and a huge, dark figure burst from the trees with incredible speed and leapt at the archer, pouncing on him before any party could blink and biting viciously into his shoulder.
Standing slowly as Cade came stalking into the clearing, a growl radiating from deep within his stomach as he dragged the boy along by his shoulder. Luka looked to the girl as the boy screamed in pain, blood flooding the snow.
“Leave him.” Cade growled deeply but did as Luka asked and dropped Sam to the ground and began walking over to Luka, Sam whimpering in pain as he clutched at his shoulder, shaking violently. “You chose life. Then go live it. Take him back to your village and get him taken care of before he dies.” Cade walked over to Luka, making a soft, almost concerned noise, practically disregarding the others now. Luka looked to him and smiled slightly. “I’m fine.” He assured the creature. “Let’s just get out of here.” Cade lay down and Luka moved; climbing up onto the creature’s back with a small wince and a groan of pain. As he stood Luka looked over to the girl and the human boy with a small frown. “I better not see either of you here again. Go home. Warn your village about what lurks here. Fix the wall. Save more people the temptation in the future.” He warned as the creature turned and disappeared quickly into the woods.
