Okay I think I have a character.
Name: Chika Ishiguro Age: 16 Gender: Female Personality: Something Chika is not, which anyone who meets her for but a mere singular twinkling moment of time, is reticent, taciturn, diffident, timorous, and now the words are escaping the initial point; that point being that Chika would describe herself as being quite...garrulous. Others might use less flattering words, perhaps loquacious, or voluble which is a very roundabout way of saying that Chika likes to talk. Often. Frequently. About a subject matter that others usually do not care to hear about. The frequency and speed at which she communicates has often been described as 'nettlesome' or, if one is feeling particularly fancy, they will use 'vexatious', both appropriate terms for telling Chika how annoying she is being. It isn't even that Chika has her heart in the right place, she likes to talk and educate the masses precisely because she believes that none are quite on her level when it comes to vocabulary. Chika isn't unfriendly, it's just that most tend to find her insufferable and she has adapted to the point where she tells herself that she doesn't need friends who can't even compete with her in a game of Scrabble or whatever word games are available. Alas, for Chika might simply be...forlorn above all else. Brief History: Ah, the commencement, the inception, the genesis, maybe even the conception if you're truly, truly interested, but so few are, and for obvious reasons. Nevertheless, Chika comes from a family of authors, on her mother's side of things, dating back to days when technology was sticks and stones and broken bones where words were able to hurt you. From poems to novels to short stories and everything inbetween, the Ishiguro women have a long family tree of being masters of the written word; written on paper from the very same family tree perhaps. Chika looks to continue that tradition, though she prefers verbalizing words rather than simply putting them onto paper in a fashion resembling a story. That's just a waste, words should be shared forcefully, not hidden away in bindings. Chika enrolled in Sengoku City High School because it was her mother's alma matter and Chika, ostracised throughout her early school life, thought that it would be a place where bright minded individuals could coalesce and learn from one another. Instead she found it to be a place of order and respect which wasn't exactly unwelcome either. Either way, it afforded her the chance to refine her particular talents in an environment that was conducive to learning. Chika is happy to wear the badge of Sengoku City High, both figuratively and literally, as it's a place where the Ishiguro legacy can continue; who wouldn't want to read about the exploits of Sengoku High's resident sesquipedalian? Weapons: Apart from her vocabulary, which is tied into her weapon, Chika fights with what she refers to as The Lexicon, a book that acts as both dictionary and thesaurus. If someone were to open The Lexicon they would find its pages blank, but Chika is able to tap into its resources and knowledge thanks to The Notebook, which is a seemingly infinite scroll that she unravels while in combat. The Notebook is what is used to tap into the power that The Lexicon holds and one cannot work without the other, unless she was to simply turn The Lexicon into a blunt weapon, which would just be so barbaric. Abilities: With the power of The Lexicon and The Notebook, Chika is able to literally turn words into weapons. Words that she writes down on The Notebook or words that she speaks when both Lexicon and Notebook are active are turned into offensive or defensive attacks. The longer a word is, the more effective it is when used, and double effectiveness if a word is used that fits the context - after all, no one likes someone who just uses big words for the sake of it. Each word has a different effect based on its definition or its etymology, and synonyms have the same effect across every definition. An example would be using the word 'conflagration' and unleashing fire from the bindings of The Lexicon or 'deluge' to use water. Words such as 'homicide' that relate to murder or killing have no effect on the living. Chika has yet to tap into the true power of words, but she's still learning how to master The Lexicon as she still is unable to use conjunctions to hook up words and phrases and clauses.
