Okay his personality is still in two different places, remove the one thats just under his face claim. I wouldn't have any problems with him being in the war, but if you do this you also have to take into account the idea of PTSD if he was on the front lines, unless you wanted him to be in the war doing the 'backstage' work like tech or infirmary.
