Species Asari Age 252-253, born by Earth reckoning in 1938. Gender Mono-gendered.
PERSONAL DETAILS
Personal Profile Rational. Distant. Ruthless. A cold-blooded killer. All of these have been used to describe Marianna, and with good reason. A veteran of conflict both in national and mercenary conflicts, Marianna has seen it all, and usually through the scope of her sniper rifle. She has developed a hard shell around her, perhaps to protect her inner self from the violence and bloodshed that being a soldier in the galaxy today brings. It's part of the job, she tells herself constantly. It's part of the job that you see people dying every day, be they friendly, civilians or the enemy. It's part of the job to witness death and destruction and to see the fear in people's eyes as you pull the trigger and end them there and then. Nobody said being a soldier was easy. But adapting to civilian life is even harder. Marianna rarely speaks, and is slow to trust those around her - she fears that growing attached to her comrades will only heighten the loss that she would feel if they died. Her manner of speech is short, curt and rational - if there are flaws in a plan, she will not hesitate to say so. She is not a malicious person, that being said - she doesn't go out of her way to be cruel to people, because to her, cruelty to others simply serves to inflate the inflictor's ego. Sexuality "Do I look like I give a damn..."
APPEARANCE DETAILS
Physical Appearance Marianna is a tall, slim woman of about 194 cm, or 6' 4", and weighs about 195 pounds. Her frame is well-built though a touch on the slimmer side than one might expect from a person of her background. She has several scars on her body, particularly from knife cuts and gunshot wounds that she has sustained over the years working for various mercenary organisations. She has the typical Asari blue-hued skin, although her skin colour is lighter than some others. Her eye colour is a dark purple, with the same colour lip gloss being almost ever-present. Clothing and Armour Out of armour, Marianna can usually be seen wearing a white buttoned shirt usually with the top one or two buttons undone, and dark blue jeans, with black leather boots and a black leather zip-up jacket. However, these days, it's rare to see Marianna out of her personalised Colossus light armour. Coloured with dark red plating and black fibre armour, Marianna prefers to blend into the crowd or even better, into the shadows, partly as a way of ensuring that the denizens of Omega don't take a shotgun to her, and partly to avoid social interaction, which Marianna dislikes. Armour: Kassa Fabrication Colossus-classification Light Armour, with an integral Recon Hood to improve accuracy as well as spacial awareness. Weaponry: Twin combat knives, usually kept in scabbards on her thighs. Dual Kassa Fabrication Razer pistols, unmodified. Marianna's customised Rosenkov Volkov sniper rifle, named "Heart Hound". The Volkov's regular scope has been replaced by an infrared-using scope that highlights the positions of enemies in Marianna's heads-up display, as well as having the firing action extensively modified to use a much more powerful shot at the expense of having to re-chamber the gun after each shot, effectively turning the rifle into a 'one shot, one kill' type of rifle. This suits Marianna just fine. Rosenkov Materials Kovalyov Assault Rifle, modified to use 3-round burst fire instead of fully-automatic. Also equipped with a basic scope for medium-range assault fire. Serrice Council Savant Bio-Amp (a gift from her mother)
SKILLS & ABILITIES
A crack shot with her sniper rifle. As an asari, possessing of biotics: notably Singularity and Barrier in her case. Skilled in CQC and able to fight multiple (up to 4) enemies in close combat with knives. Resilient to mental and physical fatigue or pressure, and possessive of a high pain threshold. Able to speak several languages - Thessian, British English, Parisian French and conversational Russian (enough to get around). This is from a fair amount of time around humans and on Earth.
BIOGRAPHY

Marianna R'myr was born on the planet of Thessia in the Earth year of 1938, to two Asari parents. Her parentage has drawn a lot of flak to her from other Asari, who consider her to have added nothing to the Asari gene-pool; it is this criticism that drives Marianna to push herself harder and further than is perhaps strictly necessary - she feels as if she must compensate for her parents' actions with her own strength and acumen for fighting. Marianna has always shown a cool-headed approach in the face of danger - most notably in her few jobs when she was working as a mercenary for hire between 2165 and 2169. Marianna is very tetchy about her parentage and dislikes talking about it. She had an aptitude for military matters early on in her life, and at the age of 80, following the Asari tradition, she joined the military for the mandatory 30 years, and developed her biotic powers. Marianna was documented as exhibiting "excellent marksmanship with a rifle at long-range, this can be exploited with dedicated sniper training". Early on, she was possessive of a rather fiery temper, but this was quickly quenched by her experiences in the military, and she grew to be a calm and rational soldier in the face of enemy fire, who was willing to put herself in danger for the sake of the mission. This was put to the test during the boarding of an illegal contraband-carrying ship known as the Troubadour. Her platoon of Asari boarders found themselves trapped within a carefully-designed kill zone - this platoon included several of her friends who she had known since her days in early training. The enemy opened fire with heavy weapons, killing or seriously injuring those Asari who weren't behind cover, including two of Marianna's friends. Enraged, Marianna ignored her Sergeant's orders, and stood up to fire her rifle at the gunners, dispatching them both with one shot each. With the death of the machine gunners, the other Asari troopers who had been pinned down behind whatever cover they could find gradually emerged and began to kill the rest of the pirates. Marianna thought it a rational action, despite her insubordination. Instead, her sergeant reported this to the commander of the company in charge of boarding the ship (which was found to have illegal contraband of weapons and ammunition bound for some pirate group, Marianna didn't ever listen who) and Marianna was placed in detention awaiting trial for insubordination and recklessness. Angered, Marianna defended herself admirably at the ensuing court-martial, but was still found guilty of insubordination and demoted. Seething at the perceived injustice that she had suffered (admittedly she *had* put the lives of others in danger with her recklessness, but what else would one do in the situation), Marianna resolved to leave the Asari military, and find something that was less stringent about the method in which she got the job done. Thusly, she became a mercenary.

In 2165, Marianna, despondent that virtually nothing was ever coming to fruition, decided that there was nothing for it - she would have to become a mercenary. She had fought mercenaries before, and now she was forced to become one to support herself... the irony of the situation was not lost on Marianna. Her first job was with a volus merchant who needed protection from raiding parties in the Terminus Systems. Thinking nothing of the job, Marianna accepted. The situation went reasonably well for the first few journeys, but then, once again, it all came crashing down. The volus' ship was boarded by batarian slavers looking for potential slaves to sell on the market, and found the crew of the volus ship and its contents. Despite a fierce struggle that lasted almost three days, the batarians managed to kill or capture the crew, including Marianna, after a long struggle. Dragged onboard the slaver ship with the rest of the crew and stripped of her clothes and equipment, Marianna was due to be enslaved and she most likely would never see Thessia again. Or at least that was what would happen if she just let herself be enslaved. It was the second galactic day that Marianna and the crew were aboard the slaver ship, and it was the allotted time for 1st meal (as the slavers called breakfast). Marianna, who was kept in solitary confinement due to her biotic power and danger to the crew, was kept apart from the rest of the enslaved crew members from the volus trading vessel. When the guard walked into Marianna's cell, he saw nothing. From the shadows, Marianna leapt out and gave the guard a quick blow to the back of the knee, before plunging a shiv she had made from a piece of scrap metal into the batarian's back, piercing the spine and the heart. The guard died without too much of a scuffle, luckily. Searching the body yielded results - a pistol. It wasn't much, but it was all Marianna needed. Stepping out into the hallway, Marianna heard a shout. Looking over to her right, where the voice came from, she saw another guard, evidently taken aback. She silenced him with two shots from the pistol she had taken, and he crumpled to the floor, gaping holes in his chest and his neck. There was now only a small 'checkpoint' that stood between Mari and potential freedom. Slipping over to a door that led into the room, containing a single guard, she hid behind it and silently opened the door. Noticing no attention, she rushed over behind the guard and locked her arm around the guard's neck, whilst at the same time driving her shiv through the batarian's chest. Interfacing with a terminal at the checkpoint, Marianna found a map of the ship. She and the rest of the slave holds were on the lowest floor - the 6th floor to be precise. She looked around for any alternative methods of ingress into the rest of the ship, and struck it lucky - there was a ventilation shaft that ran through the checkpoint. Carefully removing the grating, Marianna climbed up into the ventilation shaft, and replaced the grating. Checking her omni-tool constantly, Marianna, after a couple of hours crawling through a long, narrow, sometimes hot, sometimes cold metal tunnel, reached the 4th floor - crew compartments. The ventilation shaft ended abruptly, with the only method of exit being a long drop into a water cistern. Removing the grating that was her potential exit to freedom, Marianna took a deep breath and dived into the water cistern. It was colder than it looked - it almost took her breath away, which would have been fatal in a cistern this size; if she'd lost control of her breathing, she would've certainly drowned. Keeping calm and in focus, Marianna surfaced quickly, and headed over towards a hatch in the side of the cistern. Twisting it open, she found herself in long, narrow tunnels filled with water. She took a deep breath and swam down the tunnel, relieved to see that there were small 'air pockets' for one to breathe in. At the end of the tunnel, Marianna saw a valve, above which it said something along the lines of 'EMERGENCY RELEASE VALVE'. Shrugging, Marianna turned the valve, and the water began to drain away. Instantly, a ship-wide alarm was sounded, and the ship's VI alerted the crew members. Cursing, Marianna crawled back along the tunnel and climbed up a ladder that was built into the side of the cistern to a door. This door led to another ladder, heading up towards the bridge deck. Whilst the crew were occupied with the cistern flooding, Marianna could exact vengeance on the bastard who'd masterminded the attack... Climbing up the ladder, Marianna reached the small hatch that opened into the bridge area. From it, she could see the captain frantically giving orders. He noticed the hatch open, and frowned. Quickly, Marianna climbed partway down the ladder to avoid being seen by the guard who was sent to examine the hatch. When he reported all clear (erroneously), Marianna realised this was her chance. She climbed back up the ladder and took out her shiv. Rushing towards the captain, she saw him turn around... and it was too late for her to do anything about the pistol which appeared from thin air. The captain fired two shots, hitting Marianna in the thigh and in the arm. Gritting her teeth, Marianna leapt onto the captain, who was about to fire again, but his reaction time was too late, and she knocked him to the ground, and his pistol out of his hand. She then plunged the shiv into the captain's chest. Forcing herself to her feet fuelled by pure adrenaline, Marianna ripped open a medi-gel pack with her teeth and pressed the pack onto her arm injury - her leg would have to wait for medi-gel another time. However, the captain was now dead and the chance was there to escape. She thought about attempting to release the others from their cells, but, after hearing some guards running back to investigate what was going on, she decided against it. Stumbling over to a nearby escape pod, she slammed her fist on the release catch, and the pod shot out of its holder. Marianna was free. She had nothing to her name, wasn't exactly uninjured, but she was free, and the pod had sent out a distress signal. For two days, Marianna's pod drifted through space, before a passing merchantman noticed the signal. Docking with the pod, the merchant trader took Marianna onboard their ship, which was bound for Thessia. Home at last, it seemed.

On arrival at Thessia, Marianna was contacted by an old friend of hers, and an agent within R'myr Security Corporation, a company that was officially run by Matriarch Lynessa R'myr (Marianna's mother) as a simple 'security for hire' organisation that was often hired out to protect VIPs and other important clients. This friend of hers was one Karmana T'salya, and their history went right back before even the boarding of the Troubadour and the pirate gang who had opened fire on the Asari company. Karmana had been one of the two friends Marianna had seen go down under fire, and Marianna originally thought Karmana to have been killed - though in fairness, Marianna hadn't stuck around in the military to find out what happened to them afterwards, leaving as she had done for the mercenary life. Marianna does not speak about the dressing-down she received from her mother upon their reunion, but what she does say is that she was offered a stable, secure job in RSC - something that Marianna could hardly turn down, given her previous experience with finding military work. Her first couple of years at RSC were quiet ones, largely collecting intelligence on events that had taken place around the galaxy. This included a mercenary group known as the Sunfury Group, whom Marianna was to infiltrate and contact RSC on their movements throughout the galaxy. Unfortunately, Marianna also tagged along in several of their escapades, and grew somewhat attached to them, and as a result was devastated when the Sunfury Group was torn apart in an abortive raid on one Athalberd Deneys' hideout on Omega Station, an ambush that Marianna, due to her position as a sniper, survived. She blamed herself for not being able to warn the assault team in time, and the deaths of her comrades weighed heavily on an already-strained consciousness...

After the break-up of the Sunfury Group, Marianna was once again thrust into a world of uncertainty and doubt. It seemed that almost everything that she'd worked with or worked for was crumbling to dust around her, and there was nothing she could do to halt it. Distraught and convinced she'd simply drift from one low-paid job to the next, Marianna thought it was perhaps time to settle down on a planet somewhere in the Republics - Illium, she reckoned, was the best bet - and maybe try and put her life as an intelligence operative-stroke-trained killer behind her and try and get on with life, as Karmi had done after she left RSC. Maybe it was time to stop gallivanting around the galaxy as if she had no cares in the world and try and build herself a future. Get a job. Get a roof over her head, try and get somewhere for a change. Like hell was she going to catch a break. Whilst Mari was on Illium, trying to put the pieces of her life back together, she was contacted by her mother once again. Initially, Marianna didn't want anything to do with her, especially after the break-up of the Sunfury Group, which Marianna blamed on herself and her mother's demands for Mari to spy on the people she called comrades-in-arms. To Marianna, her mother was the reason that she was in such a low point in her life, and she wasn't about to let her mother drag her back into the business of killing people for a living. She'd killed too many, ended too many lives with the pull of a trigger, been happy enough to kill without remorse for far too long. And yet, it was still her mother... Marianna finally brought herself to read the message after a couple of days' deliberating. She was unemployed. What harm could it do...
Marianna, I understand you're on Illium currently. I hope you are well, and I want to talk to you. I don't want to talk to you as a businessperson, or as an employer, I want to talk candidly and I want to talk to you as something I have probably never been to you - as a parent. For too long now, I feel our relationship has deteriorated. And it has, it has to such an extent where we no longer trust each other, and that state of affairs can't go on. I want to talk to you as a loving mother should, not as anything else. I owe it to you after what I did to you when you were with the Sunfury Group - I probably owe it to you after you have had to put up with decades of inattention. I admit, I was not a good mother. I didn't love you or care for you in the manner that you needed when you were going through tough times. I gave you a job, and I thought that was all you needed, because you didn't need my support. I can see how wrong I was, Mari. I can see that you really did need help, and I can see that you need my help more than anything right now. I make no excuses for my actions in the past, Marianna. There are no excuses, I have failed you as a parent. I want to repair what damage I can, and I want to help you. Come home, Marianna. Please. Your mother, Lynessa
Marianna looked at the message long and hard. There were doubts in her mind... did Lynessa really mean this, or was it just something to get Marianna back into RSC? There was only one way to find out. She accessed her bank accounts to find that her mother had transferred her enough money to get to Thessia - there would be no going back if she went. Mari packed her bags, went to the local spaceport and boarded a passenger service direct to the homeworld. The reunion with her mother was the first positive thing that happened to Marianna in a very long time. She felt as if she actually mattered to at least someone, even if that person and Mari had been at each other's throats not a few months before. She felt as if she was needed for the first time in a very long time, that she wasn't just some cog in a machine that would turn with or without her. However, Lynessa was not about to let Marianna slip away from her previous job as an operative at RSC. She told Marianna about a certain Circle of Absolution, a high-level and powerful crime syndicate led by a man named Ticus Rakaelum, and offered to support Marianna's entry into the Circle by arranging transit to Omega Station. Marianna accepted the offer, and arrived at Omega shortly afterwards. Surely this time, she'd be able to be part of an organisation that didn't implode...
