Ok, since Rin is making a 'beam spam' cog, that would indicate that it fires a lot of low to medium power beams rapidly, meant to overwhelm large groups of small enemies (strike craft).  You could go for a more 'artillery' based cog, firing either massive shells, charged beam cannons, or missile warheads to take out large, single enemies, like battleships.
