Mahz, did you or someone upload a virus to the site because the Mac* here at school is flipping the Hell out whenever I visit this site.

To make everyone comfortable: there's nothing going on I needed to pay attention to at this time.

*Yes I know this seems almost contradictory because "lolMacsDon'tgetViruses", which is surprising me.

Is this a serious question? Are you actually accusing Mahz of uploading a virus? *SMH*

Well I would if I didn't end up having to go do things elsewhere on the internet for class and got the same messages from the browser. So it's left Mahz's domain.

But I only raise the issue on the assumption somehow got through and chunked something in the code.

Think it through; there are a few fallacies in the presumption.
If Mahz uploaded a virus onto the sever, you wouldn't have a virus on your Mac.
Why would any site owner upload a virus?
If the virus is on your computer, why do you think it's from the Guild?
Why assume it's a virus, when code issues are much more common for anything technology related?
Left Mahz's domain? Computer viruses aren't sentient; they can't move around the same way a biological virus can. They can only perform the actions they're coded to do.
Macs can get viruses. It's just more difficult because Apple places them in a walled garden to limit functionality for the user.

It just doesn't make sense from the get-go.

That First-Unread-Post button that was added about half an hour ago. Nice. Seeing as it hasn't been posted in here yet, I imagine you (Mahz) are still fully implementing it.

Not sure where else to but these buttons, but here it is with the padding fixed:

Gonna launch it soon with minimal features (no mark-as-read) so I can ensure it doesn't introduce a large performance regression.

Also, I'll recreate the /subscriptions page layout on the topics-list of each roleplaying forum (i.e. make it so you see the latest IC, OOC, and CHAR post for each roleplay).

Finally, the "Latest" button for each topic/roleplay is going to be swapped out with the go-to-first-unread logic.

Oh. I went back a page or so and didn't see anything, and I only noticed the change today, so I assumed it was new.

Is there a way to disable the bright green NEW signposts? I know the threads have new posts; I don't care about them, the ones I do I am subscribed to them. New posts always bump the threads up fresh anyway, and the times shown are indicative enough of the last post. IMO all the "New" tag does is it clutters up space and yells at me to look at them. Some people might like them so fair game. I'm asking if I can have an option in user preference to disable them, pretty please.

Yeah, the feature is just unfinished. I often push unfinished features so that code doesn't rot on my computer. But this issue is particularly annoying.

I'll clean it up this weekend, remove the "New" tags, and introduce a way to mark entire forums as "Read". I also need to do various things like express unread posts on the subscriptions page.

Far from being finished like everything else on the Guild.

Also, a very odd glitch regarding Co-GMs: Suddenly, a RP that didn't have Co-GMs has two of them. The kicker? These are completely random people that to my knowledge have no connection to the RP, and the GM hasn't even been online since yesterday (the Co-GMs appeared after that).
Edit: Random Co-GMs have disappeared again. GM hasn't still been online.
Edit2: A new random Co-GM has appeared.
Edit3: New random Co-GM is gone. Original two random Co-GMs are back.
Edit4: Gone again. A fourth random Co-GM has appeared. Is someone with sufficient power deliberately messing with the RP?
Edit5: All gone for the moment.
Edit6: More random Co-GMs. Screenshotting for the sake of record-keeping.
Edit7: One more dropped in and disappeared.
Edit8: Some more disappearances and appearances. Giving up on reporting here. Going to take a few more screenshots, just in case.

Edit9: Just noticed that there is something odd going on with this thread, too - it goes between 1x1 and being "full" and having a whole bunch of different tags, to Casual, to Free...

Are tags broken?

Now that is odd. I made a slight change to the "fetch topic" query for some changes over the weekend, but off the top of my head I can't fathom how it could cause this issue. I see that @TheMaster99 confirmed this.

If it's causing serious issues and I don't have time to look into it tomorrow or the day after, I'll just revert my changes until this weekend. :(

Edit:

#willfix

I'm certain the actual topic data is fine, it's just somehow fetching the wrong topic's metadata in the query. Must be a dumb typo. Checking it out. May revert my changes from the weekend.

Due to the bug @Shienvien reported above, I rolled back the server to the state it was in right before I implemented the unread-post system. Some other minor changes were also rolled back (collateral damage).

Couldn't figure out the issue in 30 minutes, so I'll dig in this weekend. Makes me want to punch some pillows.

Let me know if it's still an issue. So far it seems to've gone away.

Given that it is a school computer, it is perhaps more likely that your school's firewall is not liking the Guild, probably for reasons tied to the Guild's content.

I would say it is more likely that it hates a specific element within the Guild's structure, and not the content. If it was, the Guild itself should be blocked, but if only an aspect within the site was blocked, then it could break the Guild client-side without completely locking him out.

Considering it's a Mac, it's probably using Safari, and likely an older version (because schools are notoriously bad at good IT). This is probably as @LegendBegins mentioned, a rendering problem.

After some careful thinking, I've discovered a rather glaring flaw with the status system.

Now, I have to put up with the same vague, pretentious quotes you see daily on facebook.

Hey,@Mahz, I tried editing my signature with a few things, and it kept on getting cut off. I get that there's a 300px height limit, but I remember that there was an option to scroll down on a person's signature that exceeded said height. Did you remove that feature or is what I'm experiencing some kind of bug in the system?

If a signature exceeds 300px, it gets cut off without a scroll option. It saves data and bandwidth of users, and prevents abuse.

Sucks, but I can understand the reasoning behind it. i guess things like quotes will have to go in the bio and status updates rather than the sig space.

As the Guild advances, it's entirely possible that the size will be expanded, changed, or otherwise improved upon. The only goal in mind is to provide the best possible user experience.

Don't worry, people like me who have sigs turned off won't see them anyway.
