You know those apocalypses everyone thinks might happen? They did.

In 2025, aliens came to Earth. It turns out that several governments had been sending people to other worlds to steal tech for them. When the aliens decided to come here to capture those responsible and to put an end to it, they abducted the politicians and military officers responsible for the crimes. The government's didn't like that, and declared war on the aliens, calling them hostile invaders, and even terrorists. They then launched Nukes at the alien vessels, as it was the only weapon they had that might penetrate the alien shields.
Not all of the missiles hit their targets, though, and the countries that were hit accidentally retaliated with nukes of their own. The EMP from the bombs took out much of the electronic devices in the world, and the world economies collapsed. Now the Preppers, who everyone thought were nuts just days before, were the only ones with supplies. This lead to mass riot and roving gangs trying to capture what they could get. Also, it turns out that some of the virus labs around the world had actually found a Zombie virus, and when the rioters and looters ransacked their labs, some of them became infected.

Though humanity managed to partially recover, building towns in the less irradiated sections of the world, it hasn't recovered completely, despite the fact that over 100 years have passed and numerous groups of aliens have come to help us rebuild.

Name: Jeep Lightning

Description: Introduced in the 2021 model year (4 BA), it was the first all electric off-road capable vehicle to hit the market.  After the apocalypse they gained in popularity, and several plants were built around the planet to meet market demands.
With the classic "Jeep" look, it is available in hard or soft top varieties.

Stats: 50km average range on a single high capacity ion cell.  Max speed 160 kph.
5 AA: Wheel motors built with room-temp superconductors for greater efficiency.
7 AA: Liquid metal batteries were replaced with large Ion charge cells.
16 AA: Communications relay comes standard.  Supersedes AM/FM radio.
29 AA: Body made with lunar titanium alloy instead of steel.
53 AA: Comes standard with a Ion-charge cell port between the seats, so that it can be powered from the more common cells instead of only its built-in cells.
61 AA: Factory options begin to include mounted weapons and a shield generator.

Name: "Floater"

Description: A hovering, or sometimes flying, vehicle.  Usually salvaged from alien spacecraft, as the materials to build the anti-gravity coils aren't naturally available in this system.

Stats: Depends on model, but usual top speed from 100kph to 300kph.  Can float over obstacles, and fly if it needs too, though that uses more power.  5km average range on a standard high-capacity cell. Because of such high power usage, it generally uses its onboard ion-charge cells instead of running on a portable cell.  Common modifications include a form of power generation, such as solar panels or, in richer areas, small cold fusion generators.
