Four friends from different Hogwarts Houses connected in their first year.

They bonded over their love of magic, the idea that they could create anything they could imagine. They had their share of fights and times where they grew apart due to school or drama. They still remained close enough to hang out during the breaks when school was out. They still remained close enough to support one another’s endeavors and give advice when it was warranted. These four friends have graduated Hogwarts and have found their own path to take. While they have written and visited, these connections are becoming more and sparser.

But an event is about to pull them back together.

Whether they reside in the Muggle or Magical World, things are changing for the worse. The economy is taking a dive and everyone is losing their job. The rate of homelessness is jumping while the rate of happiness is on the decline. People don’t know why their luck is taking a dive, it just seemed as though a gray cloud is hanging over the world, as if everything good is slowly fading away.

As people struggle to make ends meet, the crime rate begins to rise and the streets are becoming unsafe for even those who carry wands or muggle weapons.

These four friends cross paths one way or another and decide to get to the bottom of this negative mood which is beginning to suffocate the world. Little do they know that the one behind these emotional manipulations has a foot in both the Muggle and Wizarding World. Their gain is yet unknown but if something isn’t done soon, if someone doesn’t start to investigate these troubling times, society could be thrown into a black hole where rules and order are a thing of the past.

Some general guidelines for anyone interested would be that you shouldn’t sink into the typical expectations that the Houses established (ex: if you’re from Slytherin, you don’t have to be a sneaky evil back stabber). Yes, your character should fall into the House but it shouldn’t be the cliché that first pops into your head. Your character should be well balanced and also useful when it comes to mysteries. If they want to solve this puzzle, they need to be useful and bring something to the group. And one last thought, these are long lasting bonds we’ve established, it’s natural to grow apart and have things you dislike about another character, but this dynamic needs to be friendly to reflect the background they have shared.

So this will be a dark (not too dark) mystery set in the world of Harry Potter. If you’re wondering about a time or era, I’m not sure yet. I don’t really want it to be modern but it’s fine if that’s where the majority are comfortable. I don’t want to deal with canon roles or events so if this is set in the 1990s, Voldemort will pretty much be taken out of the world. He’s got nothing to do with this.

Anyone up for this? Obviously three slots are open, I'll take whatever is up for grabs I suppose. If someone happens to like doubling, I can turn this into a one on one pretty easily.

I'm well up for this. I rather fancy playing me some Slytherin.

Will keep an eye on this.

Are there any guidelines when it comes to any of the more spectacular kinds of things people can do within the Harry Potter universe, such as animagus, metamorphimagus, apparition, Half-Breeds, so on, so forth?

A more on topic question would be whether or not our characters would be suffering the effects of the economic regression, I assume so, but what if one were to write up an opulent pure-blood or a professional Quidditch Player and so on? In more plain terms, are there restrictions oncharacters' former profession?

There's probably more obvious questions I could ask, but I'm oddly tired right now.

Apparition tends to be expected of adult wizards. I'm unsure if I want to allow "special" skills such as animagus. I couldn't care less about the bloodline of a character though, granted it's not milked in a way similar to the canon history of the Malfoys or Weasleys, Ex: Don't just be a mudblood because you want your character to be bullied or something silly like that.

As far as characters' professions go, it's up in the air. My aim was to have our characters effected but the extent is up to the writer. If they're now homeless and jobless or if they're just struggling to make ends meet. It depends on their career path and family history but even wealthy people will be suffering, not as bad but they'll probably be pushed down to the lower-middle class section, which is probably as low as any of them are used to.

How old will the characters be? I presume all four will be the same age, but how old that might be, I couldn't tell you.

I'm aiming for 25-29 range, whichever age is agreed upon between those would work for me.

Figured as much. In what way will the depression in the wizarding world affect daily life? Obviously it doesn't stop most wizarding families from acquiring most non-edible goods, since they can just transfigure it. Transport is largely free, etcetera.

It would effect the food supply, it would make money scare and less valued, it would weaken the use of magic worldwide (not alarmingly so but enough to dampen powerful spells and potions, kind of like "in the air" sort of tampering) it would weaken the Ministry's power and resources to help tie up ends and plug up holes. If that makes sense...?

So it's kinda metaphorical as much as literal, then. Makes sense.

When you say it makes money less valued (and this is kind of a question for J.K., too!), in what way does having less money affect wizards' lives? Food isn't particularly scarce (unless it is), and most stuff can be magicked out of thin air.

I failed Econ in HS, don't look at me!

Um...*thinks* Think of it like cutting back, sure you can magically summon food but since there's a "unknown" spell hanging over everyone, the food conjured would usually be crap food like old bread or raw chicken, etc. As far as not having a lot of money or it just losing face value, the rich wouldn't have much of a place above everyone else, kind of making everyone slowly sink into poverty and shit situations you know?

Genkai said sure you can magically summon food

*twitch* *twitch*

In the HP universe, you can't transfigure food. But yeah, I get the point.

xD

*shrugs* Okay then...well then ignore that bit.

Anywho...I don't know if anyone still is interested but this slow turn out has diminished my interest but if people want to claim spots now, feel free. Otherwise I'll have to set this aside.

I'm still kicking about and fancy slitherin' about (fnar) but if this doesn't go ahead, I'll probably attempt to throw together an HP-World RP to get my fix anyway, so don't panic if your heart's not in it. :)

Please be a bit more specific about who you're looking to play, even a possible second option. Ex, gender, House and possible profession to help.
