Opening your eyes, you are greeted with near darkness, the only light coming from a dirty, flickering light above you. You can hear the muffled sound of thunder and rain, while your nose is overwhelmed by the scent of burning incense. More subtly, you notice a faint rotting smell. Gathering yourself, you try to move forward but find yourself trapped by unseen forces. Looking down, you see a large pentagram drawn out with chalk around your feet, ancient symbols keeping you from moving, speaking, or doing much of anything. You are about to try and struggle when you hear a voice in the darkness.

“Calm yourself godling. Those are only precautionary measures.”

An aging man with grey eyes, dressed in long grey robes, steps forward. He appears in good health, considering his apparent age. The long white beard and wrinkled skin contradict the strong, straight bearing with which he carries himself.

“We truly are excited that you’re here. But please, feel free to take a moment to gather yourself and find a form that pleases you.”

Looking over yourself, you find that you must agree. This form is inadequate and, honestly, embarrassing. You are a god. What form would be appropriate for one such as yourself?

So if it was tough to guess from that intro, you play a god. You have only a small number of followers, thus are limited in what you can achieve at the moment. However, you have immense potential and plenty of chances to grow. As you grow, you must tread carefully for everyone from rival gods to god-hunters, shadowy government agencies to otherworldly monster could come after you.

This RP works through votes. Each player gets an equal say in the actions taken by a single, shared god, thus discussion and compromise will be extremely important. When I update, I look at all responses and write out the reactions to each post. I'll try to write out compromises, or if things are controversial I'll look at which side has the most support.

Let's choose the form of a house cat.

Interesting. I've participated in this sort of thing before, but never where you could see who's posting what.

Some type of animal isn't really that bad of a choice. Lots of gods are depicted in the form of a great animal.

I suggest we start as a house cat, then start to learn minor magics. How to become invisible, how to talk to other animals and command them to do our will, and eventually assume Humanoid shape at first. Then, once we have Human form, we should work on Human magics and maybe a few mildly aggressive things to help keep us alive if someone is after us.

That's not entirely true based on last time with my experience in this. Worshipers make up the vast majority of our powers but we can shape just a teensey bit for ourselves if we develop a way to do it.

I will point out that you don't have to choose this moment. I just wanted to give an idea of how I planned on running this. Nothing is set in stone until the OOC/IC are posted.

The thing about not letting everyone see the others ideas is that it really cuts down on player interaction. Really this RP is about players (you guys) vs GM (myself) rather then player vs player.

I'll start you off with a small amount of followers allowing for some minor feats, but yes your initial focus should be on acquiring more power through worshipers. Once you're more established in the world the focus will be less on worshipers and more about growing in influence.

Seems neat! I'd push for a form other than a house cat though- possibly something that actually related to the fact that the godling is composed of many different minds (the players) acting in unision. Could almost go the Hindu style and have multiple faces, though I imagine some would find that odd.

Other thing to do might be to decide on some specific portfolio or area of interest to the god and have that influence what form is chosen. For example, a god of storms and the sea would have some really strong imagery to fall back on, as would a god of poison (snakes, venomous insects, etc) or any other number of things.

Personally I'd lean towards something decidedly more otherworldly looking as far as the form chosen, but that's just me.
