This didn't strike me as terrible vague. You've got that it was an accident, but you also have that she knocked his head off. I don't really see how that could be just her witnessing an academy recruit falling down some stairs; that seems like a disingenuous backstep from a previous post.

At the same time, it's not like the Soul Reapers have everything surveilled all the time. Probably the most they'd know about the recruits death is that they died of injuries while on a training patrol. Unless there was a witness there'd be no evidence linking Light to the dead recruit. That being said, if a recruit was decapitated, I imagine that the gotei 13 would have at least some sort of warning ongoing about Karakura town until the issue was resolved or declared a cold case.

I think if we're going to put together a common tie in our characters' backstories, we should be working together on what we think should happen (or have happened previously), rather than being like 'well yeah you can say that if you want, but I reserve the right to later say it didn't go down like that'. Generally I've found it's good to draw a line between IC knowledge and Meta knowledge when working this sort of thing out, and if we're not willing to be open and do that I'd rather just not include the recruit in Kaede's backstory.
