such anger

I'm like...ide. Just ugh. too lazy to format it now.

How many stories were there regarding the pinnacle of gaming, virtual reality? How many people of the 21st century dreamed of living long enough to experience the feeling of a world that wasn't their own, striving off into a pixelated realm of data to seek their fame and fortune? Yet, as all dreams went, it stayed merely a fantasy, and the many millions that hoped to one day wield two swords and find their lover in an online VR game would never do so. Yet, as those unfortunates laid on their deathbeds, their hopes were passed on to the next generation. Virtual reality, though it had start prototyping in the 21st century, only truly reached commercial usage in the 22nd century.

With the first virtual reality machines created and marketed by the Chinese tech giant Lenovo, spurred on by it's acquisition of Nintendo and Apple in the late 21st century, the reality of VR machines brought forth a massive boom in the gaming industry, and an even larger one in the areas of ethics and politics. Due to such political issues as the legality of actions in-game and the possibility of severe gaming addiction ruining lives just as easily as drugs, the first games available were single-player sports or educational games. Needless to say, enthusiasts were displeased and the first petition for action games soon passed through the internet, reaching an astounding number of two billion votes before the UN finally let it pass. And from there, the flood of single-player virtual reality games was unleashed. It was looking like the 22nd century was reached its peak in terms of gaming, but then, an announcement with massive repurcussions was made.

The creation of a virtual reality MMO, on a global scale.

On December 25, 2108, an unknown Canadian company, in collaboration with Lenovo and Sega-Atlas made a Kickstarter project that promised the creation of a virtual reality MMO, with powerful enough servers that there wouldn't be any lag, even at a global level. A hundred random donors would be given beta keys for the first test phase next year, and that was all that was needed for that company to reach it's goal of fifty million dollars within an hour. In a single month, the company had raised an astronomical amount of money to put into the game. The world waited with a bated breath the following year, as one hundred players were allowed access to the game, and even allowed to post impressions of it.

But those reviews only came a month afterwards, with almost all the players spending all their available free time playing.

The hype increased, and two years later, it was finally released.

On that autumn day, ten million lucky players became the first to access the first VRMMO on a global-scale.

The Threshold of Kakophonia.

Races

Combat

Guilds
Crafting Guilds - The Crafting Guilds are economic power houses of Kakophonia, players grinding hard time money and resources into creating items to turn a profit. Player mercantile is fairly common, more so than one would think; being that players who enjoy playing the game require items to progress, and as you gain more and more wealth, the influence you have also increases. Crafting Guilds are often intertwined with one another, as they trade goods to benefit each other- but there also cases where rival guilds bribe players to boycott others into bankruptcy. In the end Crafting Guilds are the safest guilds to join, as they require little no combat and can generate slow but steady amounts of experience.

Exploration Guilds - The Exploration Guilds are the brave and the bold of Kakophonia, challenging every dungeon and travelling unknown lands to discover the secrets of the world. Often originating as just a small guild composed of few players, highly respected and famous Explorations Guilds arguably possess the players with the highest ingame experience and combat skill.

Union Guild - Union Guilds are juggernauts of Kakophonia, filled with hardcore players who relish in being superior to others. Gaining influence and power via hardcore grinding andpower-leveling, they rise in power quickly and claim the land and towns for themselves. Union Guilds hold the largest amount of power among the three types of guilds, having the ability to claim a town as their own for a large sum of gold, and the ability to set rules and taxes within those towns.

Crafting
The crafting system within the game is very unique, and often regarded as fun to profession junkies. Experience is gained through creating a ‘good’, and eventually you gain levels and are able to create larger or more intricate goods with higher level materials. This ultimately leads to your skill 'capping', in which the creation of a 'masterpiece' will be needed to progress in the trade. Masterpieces grant more experience and gain the player a skill point to use in their trade, learning to craft unique items of their own design. Many players choose to take the crafting route as it is a less stressful way to level than hunting monsters, although not faster.

Skill System
The skill system within the game is its core feature and appeal. There are a countless amount of skills scattered across the world, waiting to be obtained by players through an even larger amount of quests, events, and other methods. Each skill is unique in acquisition and effect, furthermore, many can be obtained over-time for the player to become stronger and realize the skill tree that they actually want. Skills are freely obtainable by any player, with important ones being blatantly easy, while others being nearly impossible to find or complete.

Non-Player Characters
In Kakophonia there are many different types of people, with different personalities, voices, histories, and other self-defining characteristics. One might confuse these traits for those of the players of this game, but this is not the case, as the NPCs of this game of high enough intelligence that the differences between NPCs and humans seem almost non-existent. Each have their own stories to tell, their own hopes and dreams, making them an oddity unique to this game- and a very accepted and liked oddity at that.

I concur. It could become a distraction hazard if left unchecked.

Appearance -
IGN(In-Game Name) – Elizea Roria
Nickname – Elly
Age - 19
Gender - Female
Persona – A peppy, bright girl, Elizea is an optimist through and through. Never one to back down from a challenge, she tends to get herself into rather tight situations, a problem both in-game and out. Failures cause her spirits to sink for quite a while, often blaming the problems of others on herself. In order to prevent this, Elizea goes out of her way to make sure everyone stays in tip-top shape, and out of trouble. Some see this as nagging, but it's a necessary precaution for her to take, to ensure success in all ventures.

Brief Background – Outside of the game, Elizea, or Sarah Willows, was an intelligent student, with her head often in the clouds. Daydreaming as she did, she didn't do as well in school as she should have. How could she, when there were entire lands to visit in her mind? Needless to say, her parents nor her teachers didn't approve of such behavior, and she was prescribed medication to help her attention. Sarah hated the medicine, as most children do. It dulled her. During one visit with a friend, Sarah skipped taking her medicine. They were going to have a bonfire, and she wanted to be alert for it.

As the fire went on, Sarah was off staring into space once more. During this, one of her friends tripped right in front of her, into the fire. The girl suffered horrible burns, scarring practically everything on her body. Sarah knew that if she were paying attention, she could have caught her. While the girl was able to get reconstruction surgery to repair the damage, it didn't mean that she had experienced serious pain. This developed into a guilt so strong, any failure she witnessed, be it her's or another's, reminded her that she was flawed. Out of high school, she took a waitress job at a local restaurant, to try and take her mind off things. Long story short, it didn't work.

Then she discovered Threshold of Kakophonia. It looked so incredible...and it was exactly what she had dreamed of. A world to escape into. Sarah saved money as fast as she could, and made sure to secure a set for herself. On the day of the launch, she giddily strapped on the gear and entered the game. She took the name Elizea Roria, something much more exciting than her boring old name.

You don't get Professions yet. So keep that as N/A.

Also, you're in the 22nd century. Pretty sure that skin reconstruction surgery isn't as stupidly expensive. Modern medicine 2 OP, but if her friend's super poor, I can see that not being achieveable. Is her personality effected at all by her guilt-trauma? Like, I don't know, overprotective/naggy?

Huh. I can't believe I forgot about that. I blame recent health issues sapping me of energy.

I'll fix things. She would be pretty protective. "WOAH WOAH WOAH, BUDDY. You almost stumbled on that crack. You gotta be more careful!"

Thar we be. Is that better?

IGN(In-Game Name)Amai

Nickname – Emi

Age – 17

Gender – Female

Persona – Amai is a very shy girl, her preferred form of communication with people is without physical contact. Often staying away from things like voice or video chat, preferring text communication more than anything. Though in retrospect, when she does communicate with people indirectly she seems like a cheerful girl, sounding upbeat and completely different. What would draw such a girl towards the VRMMO you might ask, well the answer is simple, peer pressure. With a girl who is shy within the common world, friends are indeed hard to make, so as they progressed she would need to keep up. And as they saw this rising star of a game arise, they believed it was time to move on from their old dreary mmo onto something new. The transition would be hard, and Amai is nervous- but we’ll just have to see how it turns out.

Brief Background – At the age of seven, Amai was first introduced to online gaming as her mother screamed into her headset playing the popular MMO of her time Underworld Online at her work desk. As the little girl tugged at her mother’s sleeve for attention, the woman was too entranced by the battle she had been facing to noticed. Rather than get upset or cry, the young Amai was awed of the determined expression on her mother’s face. The following year, Amai asked for her own computer as a birthday present and in that year she played the same game as her mother, learning the basics and striving for greatness. She played the game religiously throughout her younger years, and by her last year of middle school she was in a top tier raiding guild. But the game she had gotten so good at was now many years old, even her mother had quit it to focus more on work. Though her guild lived on, flocking from one game to another until they found one they liked. They settled on Seven Blades, an action-combat mmo for a couple years, but then ToK was released. It was a VRMMO, something Amai had never tried before, it was scary but all of her friends were moving on. She didn’t want to be left behind, so along with the many who lifted anchor for this game- she started anew to defeat this games challenges like the rest.
Race – Nobelle

Class – Alchemist

Profession[s] – Will be added when chosen through RP.
