Have you ever thought about starting with the beginning of a character's training, rather than when they're already full-powered? It tends to be a lot more fun :P You know, maybe he only knows the strict basics of his art, and eventually learns the rest of those techniques down the road. There's a word for that...right, "character development".
1. That would be "power development". "Character development" is how one's personality alters over the course of a story, with Superman as the prime example of that... though I suppose you could say one's powers are a part of one's character, and in any case, Superman was always OP, so perhaps a bad example. My point is, one's powers don't need to become noticably greater for one's character to develop. 2. Way to sound patronising as hell. Believe it or not, I have had a lot of experience with forum roleplaying; I believe I've already apologised for misjudging the power ratios of starting characters in this RP, so I don't need other people telling me I'm doing it wrong when I've (probably) stopped doing it wrong. Anyways, I redid Koe's character sheet. Let's see whether I screwed it up again or not. Ideally not.
