You could steal an idea from [i]Terminator 3[/i] and give the pilot the ability to infect vehicles and equipment with nanobots, allowing him to remotely pilot them. Could be extremely useful if combined with a series of portable turrets (à la [url=http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Turret_(Mass_Effect_3)][i]Mass Effect 3[/i][/url]) as this would allow the character to provide crowd control and area suppression for the squad.
