Why not? You're going to die anyways. Lets face it. You see a Nuke falling, ain't nothing gonna save you. And getting closer, the better chance you have at instantaneous death. And if some kid comes up to you and says: "[i]I can live through that.[/i]" Wouldn't you think that'd give you a chance of surviving?
