Do all the Demon blades have to blades?. Possibly other types of weapons for different types of demons?. For example a demon of rage and wrath's weapon could be something of a giant axe, while one of the air or wind could be a bow.
Borrowing from jackie chan cartoon: Perhaps each demon is weak/sealed with a specific item/material, most likely something the weapon or scabbard is made from. So exposure to that thing of power keeps the demon in check. Like a fire demon wielder has to drink holy water to quell the hellfire within so they keep it on a steel(fireproof) hipflask.
Kind of like the heritage system, 'houses' owning certain demon blades could prove for some interesting group and role play dynamics to be sure.
As for Demon blades being other weapons, could work but since a lot of things do not have scabbards need some other way to keep the miasma in check. Having all Katanas, or at least swords, would be easier to implement.
Course if we impliment a system as knighthawk suggested I suppose it would be easier to use other weapons. In that case scabbards would not be the item to keep the weapons in check and something else would be used. So for example a special tailsman on the handle of a weapon might keep the corruption in check most of the time but in times of extreme use it cannot hold back the large flow of bad energy which then infects the user. If you are really crazy then you could even take the tailsman off and use the weapon without worrying about the overflow of evil energy but you sure won't last long.
Also, if we are going to go with Demon Blades, I still think two things are important to establish before we start. Do the Demon Blades serve any special purpose other than just being given these weapons and being thrown into the world, and what is the general opinion of the Demon Blades by both Nobles and common folk. Are they loved, feared, respected, or hated, possibly a mixture of all three. Just somethings I think are important.
I'm getting together what will eventually be the OOC on the first post.
Alright here are the character sheets at the moment.
Name:
Appearance:
Age:
Gender:
Clan Affiliation: (These will play an important role as certain clans may have their own agendas at certain times that clash with current objectives for other players)
Demon Blade Wielder: (Yes/No)
Skills: (Are you a trained healer, good at stealth, swordplay, etc.)
Bio: (Make sure you include in the bio why your character was given a Demon Blade; was it because of high birth, skill, because you were the ‘sacrifice’ to the demon weapon, etc)
Weapon Abilities: (Two Max, also include the ability's corruption level, does using the ability greatly increase the blade's corrupting influence or is it relatively minor. As a rule of thumb the more powerful the ability the more miasma is released from the 'blade' easily leading to rather dire consequences.)
The Evil is contained by: (Tailsman used to keep the corruption at bay. Can be any object as long as it makes sense and can be kept on your person at all times.)
@Raijinslayer So as for the role of the demon blades in the story. Common folk are most certainly not allowed access to these highly effective but extremely dangerous weapons. If some rabble managed to get their hands on one you can bet there would quickly be a high bounty on their head and they would be hunted down until the weapon was retrieved. For the most part the demon weapons are held under lock and key by influential clans but certain individuals are allowed the honor of wielding one or else are forced to do so for various reasons. Certainly weapons are of course more deadly than others and generally the most powerful are only in possession of clans close to the Shoganate.
The Demon Blades are for the most part, highly effective tools, though because of their corrupting influence, those who wield the blades are feared by the populace as they never know how far gone the user is. Still a certain amount of respect is given to such wielders as it is no easy task to use such a weapon for any great length of time. The Demon Blades are also known to be highly effective against supernatural threats so at times such users can be seen as extreme exorcists. There are not many who would want to get on the bad side of someone wielding a demon blade.
Common Folk = Fear/Respect Nobles = A dangerous tool to be used as needed. Many would love just to have one under their control even if they plan to never use it. A great bargaining chip to bring to any negotiations.
OOC is now Live! The main thing I have to figure out now is the clans. I'm having a hard time coming up with good names and until I name something, I can have a hard time creating it.
