Question: Where is your npc exactly? I pressumed he was standing in the open since he was talking closely to our party's wizard earlier and hadn't moved since.

[@DMZ] Mention of sleeping near the fence and a reclining chair also gave me an impression that he was to be out on the lawn or something.

What is this about? Much as I don't mind the mortality of my character, I don't think this is how you should react since it was not my mistake.  ... Or is this a hint of how little our opinion as players means to you?
