Name: Ethyssa Abhorsen Age: 25 Race: Human Sex: Female Appearance: Homeland: The Imperium History: Before the end of the Third Era, when the Imperium Empire was still a fragile dream of the past, the land now controlled by the Imperium was little more then a vast forest inhabited by primitive tribes. The terrain was scared and blood soaked as tribal leaders and warlords vied for dominance. This was the land Ethyssa had been raised in; a culture prizing strength, people of war. Anyone, man or woman, capable of wielding a weapon was expected to do so for the good of the tribe, and so girls and boys were both raised in the ways of combat and steel. Ethyssa's father was a farmer and hunter as well as a warrior, and her mother a village sage, gifted with the powers of foresight. From her father, Ethyssa learned how to survive off the land, how to defend one's self, but more importantly he taught herself sacrifice, as anything that must be done must be done with the well being of the tribe in mind; there was little emphasis on the individual. From her mother, Ethyssa learned the more spiritual side of life, but not to rely on the gods for miracles but rather be a miracle for others and do unto them as she would have done to herself. Ethyssa was raised alongside three brothers and a sister. Petra, the eldest son and seven years Ethyssa's senior, Baylen the second born and five years her senior, Perissa, her sister and elder by three years, then finally Tamas, the final son of the family and her junior by only a year. Petra was a remarkable hunter. Many times he had boasted there wasn't an animal he could not fell, and rightly so. When he had yet become a man he had crossed paths with a bear in the deep woods whilst hunting board. He brought the bear down with a single strike through the throat as it roared, but as the bear died it struck Petra and tore out his left eye and lacerated his face. Some years later a merchant caravan visited the village, and Petra feeling he was too big for a place to small, snuck out in the night and left with the merchants. Baylen was the second eldest, and a strong son in his own right, but having long been in the shadow of his elder brother he had grown into an impatient and brash man. Even in the absence of his older brother, Baylen felt he had never gained the admiration from his peers that Petra had garnered, and thus became cold and cruel in his jealousy. Perissa was kind and trusting, perhaps far more than was good for her for she often became outlet for Baylens frustration. As all children were raised by the weapon, so too was Perissa, but her hands proved far too fragile for wielding a blade, and so she was attentively by their mother who intended to make Perissa a sage. Ethyssa and her younger brother Tamas were two of the same cloth, but Tamas had been born with a speech impediment and could seldom string more than a few words together without great trouble, and as such he took to silence and seldom spoke. What he lacked in charisma he made up for in swordplay as a prodigy with a blade, and like Ethyssa he was fascinated with stories of valor and honor. Many times they had both sat before their father as he recounted tales of war, great heroes and marvelous conquests to the very fringes of the world. Ethyssa was twelve when her father died. Baylen had left with an envoy to a neighboring tribe seeking to trade. Their mother and father talked idly and tended the fire before a deafening crack bellowed from outside, and in quick succession another sounded. Their father looked outside for but a moment before rushing to his children. He took Ethyssa and Tamas both by the back of their shirts and hurried them out. A few of the surrounding houses were a burst with flames, and Ethyssa caught the glimpse of a giant ball of fire descending from the sky which slammed into another house with such force that planks of wood were launched like projectiles through the air. Ethyssa remember her father instructing them both to flee to the woods and conceal themselves until he called for them. They obeyed, but before she left Ethyssa caught a glimpse of a horde of riders galloping over the hill with torches and steel in hand and an unrecognizable banner streaming over their heads. Ethyssa and Tamas saw the slaughtering of their village from the safety of the woods. People they had grown up to know were struck down without mercy, they saw their father pierced through the throat with an arrow and they saw their mother and sister dragged off as the home was set ablaze. When the riders had spelt all the blood there was to spill, and all that was left of the village was embers and ash, Ethyssa went to find someone in hopes that there was a survivor. Tamas stayed in the woods, fortunately too petrified to move his legs, for at the heart of the town Ethyssa saw a circle of skeletons chained to charred posts. They had all been adults and were chained and burned alive. A few bone scattered across the blood soaked mud looked gnawed on, as if they had fed her family to dogs. A long trail of footprints stretched to the Northeast, where the survivors were being marched towards the Free Holdings. By the time the envoy had returned, there were no words shared amongst them as the sight of their village in ruin. In blind rage Baylen struck Ethyssa with his hand, cursing her for being a coward. He jumped on his horse and pursued the raiders alone, for the others knew they were too few. Ethyssa never saw him again, and has hateful as her brother had always been, she prayed he claimed vengeance. Ethyssa , Tamas and those who remained of the tribe wandered in the hopes that one of the other tribes would give them refuge. Ethyssa and Tamas were quickly adopted by a Tribal Chief whose own wife could not produce him children, but the others were sent away and Ethyssa hoped they all found a place of peace that would accept them. Their new clansmen weren't the family they had grown with, but they were all welcoming none the less. Ethyssa lived with them for three years, until the age of 15 when news of great magic and the rebirth of an ancient empire reached the village. Chieftains from many of the prominent tribes visited where they met with Ethyssa's step father. They called this new empire The Imperium; reborn from the ashes it was subjugating nearby tribes when possible and destroying or forcibly relocating those tribes which refused to submit. The Imperiums borders were growing at an alarming rate until finally it was on their doorsteps. Fortunately, the chiefs agreed they couldn't possibly pose a threat to the Imperoim, and the government and military of the Imperium could ensure stability in an otherwise war-torn region, and so within a fortnight Ethyssa and Tamas became citizens of the Imperium. Years later Ethyssa and Tamas both joined the ranks of the Imperium's military, where they served for a length of time before the siege of West Hold Colonia. It was there that Ethyssa distinguished herself from her peers as a potential leader, and was rewarded by being enlisted into the newly formed Queen's Blades. Her brother Tamas was stationed in Colonia at the time of the counter attack by the Free Holdings, but fortunately lived through the ordeal and now serves as among the city guard.
