Just a quick note that I want addressed before looking again - I didn't mean his father and mother. The family I was referring to is his wife and children. Why would he leave them behind? Or does he plan on dragging them along for the ride? xD I mean, does he not see his wife and children as important people in his life? Almost seems like... they're just there because it was expected of him vs. actually being in love. The medieval thing I can kind of accept, even though this is a medieval fantasy and some things are expected to be different, but a lot of people consider 16-18 adults too - so that's cool. WILL BE LOOKING AT EVERYONE ELSE SHORTLY!~
Oh no, his wife and children are following him. There was quite a lot of instances of this happening in medieval times, in the form of camp followers. Throughout the history of organized warfare, armies needed someone to clean the soldiers' clothes, cook their food, and keep their morale up. To that end, soldiers often brought along their families. Asher found Isabel because she was the daughter of one of the healers in the order. Because neither of them really could just desert, the two hit it off together and got married through one of the order's chaplains. The juicy details of Asher's romance isn't quite something I'd like to divulge right now, as it's supposed to be a way to subtly build his character. If I let everything loose just right now, I wouldn't have much to reveal when the time came to flesh my character out!
