Name: Faustin Morgan Race: Human Age: 24 Appearance: Pending Personality: Faustin is a man that is perpetually unsatisfied. On a superficial level, the younger of the two male heirs to the throne has been given anything he could ever desire. But the lavish gifts, impeccable formal education, and countless other blessings bestowed upon him have done nothing to sate his deepest need: his thirst for approval. From his father, the Emperor himself (will not name him here as I imagine he's a fairly important character and he may already have an established name), Faustin has only ever desired to be held in the same esteem as his elder brother Hector Morgan. But in the rigid hierarchy of imperial inheritance, stepping out from under the shadow of his elder brother - the heir apparent of the Empire - is all but impossible. Every endeavor on Faustin's part seems to be an attempt to outshine his peers and earn the attention and praise he so desperately craves. History: Faustin and his twin sister, Helen, were born on the Imperial core world of Morgan. When the royal twins were born, Hector Morgan was nearly seven years old, and had long established himself as the cherished son of the Emperor. Being the only female child of the royal household, Helen too received her fair share of adoration from her royal parents, but Faustin received precious little in the way of attention. From an early age, Faustin was relegated to a role as a replacement heir in the unlikely event that anything might happen to beloved Hector. Being the same age, Faustin and Helen arrived to become close friends and confidants from an early age; Helen gave Faustin the attention the Emperor never granted him, and Faustin likewise came to Helen's age when Hector teased and harassed her. Into their preteen years, Faustin and Helen remained close. But to see Faustin playing and cavorting about with his twin sister displeased the Emperor - Faustin's closeness to Helen struck the Emperor as an unacceptable and effeminate. The Emperor would only accept hard, rigidly disciplined sons. The Emperor forbade his twins from playing together, and made arrangements for Faustin to cease taking lessons from their private tutors, instead enrolling his youngest son in a boarding school with boys his age so that he might "grow out of being an insufferable sissy-boy". At the planet's premier prepatory school for boys, Faustin's behavior struck his more socially-adjusted classmates as peculiar. His peers quickly set about taunting and berating him, forcing Faustin to retreat socially. He became reclusive, withdrawing to his dormitory whenever possible. Though he languished emotionally in his self-mandated exile, he consistently earned high marks in his studies. His grades were so remarkable that his professors and the Dean recommended to the Emperor that he admit Faustin to the Naval Officer Academy. Knowing that this would keep his youngest son out of his sight for another five years, he agreed. The news of his admittance into the Officer Academy left Faustin distraught. He had not seen his beloved sister in nearly three years, forcing the twins to communicate via writing or hologram. Half a decade of rigorous training regimens would all but eliminate any further contact with Helen, who had recently begun training in statecraft in preparation for a diplomatic career. On the eve of Faustin's departure for the Academy, the twins promised one another to write one another whenever the opportunity presented itself. As a first-year Cadet at Morganian's Naval Academy, Faustin faced a brutal gauntlet of physical training and combat drills. His royal status earned Faustin no favor with the instructors, who on multiple occasions pushed the cadet prince to the verge of quitting the Academy. It was not a drive to excel in the face of adverse conditions, but rather a fear of disappointing his father, that kept Faustin from washing out. When he wasn't busy running several kilometers at a time or learning how to fire and assemble pulse rifles, Faustin's studies kept him preoccupied at all waking hours. His studies covered advanced calculus, orbital mechanics, combat theory, and other subjects that would serve an Officer in the Imperial Navy well. As the years passed, Faustin earned a reputation as a capable tactician, and upon graduating from the Academy he was conferred the rank of Captain, as well as command of the Celestis, a Corvette-class Imperial warship.
