@Earnest Evans It's doable, especially with clear most of the southern mid-west of raiders. The brotherhood was up further north. Going through Texas and then up would be a perfectly safe route. Also tornadoes would only be a problem some of the year. If you had a car you make the trip in 3 or four weeks outside tornado season.

You know, that makes sense. I guess if I was a character from the west coast, it'd be one who's friendly with Caesar's Legion (to make it through the Southwest route), or one who made a one-way trip in the "off-season" and only had to contend with gigantic dust devils and raiders.

Alright, thanks for helping clear things up. I'm gonna start working on my CS now.

The Legion controls most of the American Southwest, possibly including Texas. Though what Raul says in NV suggests they're ambivalent towards traders, I'd probably assume any immigrants from New Vegas or California would be caught and mudstomped in short order. I think my guy will come through Texas on his journey east.

Even if Caesar and all his little buddies were massacred at The Fort and Hoover Dam, there'd still be a massive power base throughout the Southwest. Worst-case scenario The Legion fractures under the power vacuum and any travelers now have to contend with several massive military groups formed out of the remains of Caesar's Legion, each trying to become the true Legion.

I'm sure they wouldn't be the first to make that journey. In fact, Suzy's character is stated to have done so. I don't think you need to justify it at all. We can assume the trip isn't easy, but it's not impossible. Especially with groups like the Brotherhood and NCR trying to civilize the wasteland. There's a good chance there's some sort of road or system to get people across.

Harold got all the way from California to the Capitol Wasteland... And he was nutty as an Oak...

Yes, but that's assuming that the Roads are all still intact. You have to remember that with the roads almost all in complete disrepair, that most cars will have their suspension turned to swiss cheese after 50 miles offroad... If that... So, taking into account that you will have to constantly stop for parts and maintainance, and most likely having to get new wheels at some point, the trip will most likely be substantially longer. Plus, he needs to know the roads and which way to go.

Here's an idea. Say that they crossed by steed. Bramihn or Horses (If some Dogs survived unmutated, i don't think it's a strech to say that some Horses also)

I'm extremely interested. Plan on writing up an irritable Medical Scientist from the Institute, who managed to grab some highly advanced tech before being run out for 'reasons'. Will have a CS up soon.

@mattmanganon Three to four weeks is without roads, it would take months on horses. You can get across country now in six days currently it's not a stretch that without roads you could manage it in a month. Plenty of military vehicles laying around unused so off roaders would be easy to acquire.

@Earnest Evans Caesar's legion has turned into hundreds of battling tribes, they bicker and fight over land and such. Without Caesar they are nothing.

Name: Patrick Thompson, Achilles's Protege

Age: 16

Gender: Male

Appearance:

Home:
South Carolina Area

Skills:
Barter
Sneak
Guns
Lockpicking

Background:
Patrick's parents are treasure hunters, they travel around the Carolina's at the first rumor of a store of valuable Pre-War goodies. Patrick grew up traveling from place to place learning how to get into locked storerooms, sneaking past bandits, and arguing with town merchants over the price of goods. Recently, his parents caught wind of a hidden armory in the north and set off to find it. Patrick was sick at the time and was forced to stay back in a small town down south. Patrick recovered, but after a month had gone by his parents had not returned. During that time, Achilles wandered into town. Patrick was impressed with this wanderer and demanded to be taken as his assistant. Achilles refused at first, but Patrick simply began following him in his journeys (leaving a note for his absent parents) and eventually Achilles took him under his wing. Achilles began to teach Patrick how to use a gun to defend himself on their travels and oddjobs.

Equipment:
Roving Trader Outfit- Patrick is constantly picking up pieces of scrap or interesting pre-war goods so the number of pockets is perfect for carrying all his goods.
Varmint Rifle- A common rifle with plentiful ammo.
Stimpack x2
Pork n Beans x3
Bobby Pin x10- One is Patricks favorite hidden in his sock that he calls "Lucky Joe"

Other: Patrick has a harmonica in excellent condition. It was his first real treasure and he has taught himself to play. He takes care of it constantly usually absentmindedly cleaning when he has some downtime.

OOC is up! Please post all character under the character tabs. If there's anything special your character might know I'll let you know as most of you come from pretty different parts of the wastes.

Here's the doc!

Name: Dr. Mathias Johnson

Age: 52, but with the physical body equal to a 27 year old, thanks to Institute medical technology

Gender: Male

Appearance:

Home: The Commonwealth, more specifically The Institute. He left after certain events ruined his reputation. His departure involved a lot of gunfire, screaming, and maybe a burning building or two.

Skills:
Medicine(He was the head of the Institute's medical facilities before his incident)
Science(While not as well trained as his medical skills, he's still quite adept at using advanced and pre-war tech)
Repair(He's handy to have around tools, and given the proper ones, can fix just about anything.)
Survival(His medical knowledge can also come in handy when needing to find edible materials, or when making some. He's still primarily trained with medicines, however)
Guns(While not the best sharpshooter, he knows his way around a firearm. Unlike most scientists, he never cared for using energy weapons)

Background: Born to two scientists in The Institute, Mathias has always lived around advanced tech. Unlike most children there, however, he also enjoyed escaping out into the wider Commonwealth, visiting places such as Diamond City, and even once taking a trip to the Capital Wasteland. He loved learning about the wasteland and its inhabitants, and seeing the effects the radiation and other pollutants had on them, and all the other life. He learned to appreciate medicine and its uses, while also seeing how medical science can be used to cause pain and suffering. He would become a very established medical doctor of the Institute, developing things like cybernetic limbs, a cure for diseases like Cancer and Aids, and even a treatment to provide temporary immunity to even the most harmful of radiations with a single dose. However, he had a large skeleton hidden in his closet, so to speak. Word got out of secret experiments he performed on captured raiders in hidden complexes deep under the Institute, some even involving captured strains of the Forced Evolutionary Virus, obtained from the Capital Wasteland. This wreaked havoc with his reputation, leading to the Institute violently removing him from the Commonwealth. He began to travel south, first to the Capital Wasteland, and once his reputation reached him there, further south again. Eventually he arrived in the Carolinas, setting up a medical camp in the wastes with what tech he was able to scavenge from the Institute, and the wastes.

Equipment: He wears various scraps of semi-protective clothing, such as his brown trench coat. He carries a .45 pistol on his side, a combat survival knife in his boot sheath, and a hunting rifle on his back. The rifle takes standard .308 rounds, but has also been jury-rigged to accept auto-inject stimpaks and Med-X as viable ammo, meant for firing into allies for a quick heal or assist. He also keeps a backpack full of pre-war and Institute-level medical and chemistry equipment, a large pouch full of stimpaks, Med-X, and other chems, a smaller pouch filled with around 1500-2000 caps, another pouch filled with ammo for his two guns, and a special Institute-developed Mk XIII Auto-Doc, featuring hover technology for easier transport, an armored casing for combat protection, and a self-defense flamer and buzz saw. Around his neck, generally hidden from view, is a special glass vial with a yellow-orange liquid inside, which when asked is said to hold "A last-resort experiment."

Other: He has a pet dog named "Max", who got his name from one of Mathias' favorite pre-war movie series, where a man wanders a wasteland similar to the current one, only in the movies, the cars actually work. He also has a pre-war quarter he keeps on his person at all times, which he will absentmindedly twirl between his fingers at times.

Also as a side note I've put in a few of the settlements in the area, mostly North Carolina as the Southern state is currently relocating further towards the North due to Super Mutant raids. If you have any ideas for smaller settlements PM me.

And as a general note, a person looking to travel east from the west coast, could potentially have gone north through Canada, although that's said to be heavily Enclave territory, at least in one F3 terminal.

Still any more room for another person?

I was thinking of using a pre-war Chinese spec-ops who got himself cryo'd as the bombs dropped

@ClocktowerEchos I'd be fine with that, but rather than cyro maybe he just comes from a group of sleeper cell Chinese hidden in the states? Like a cell of Chinese communists who formed there own town and try to spread there philosophies?

@ApollosarcherHmm... I'll admit I'm sorta mixed on that idea, but I'll roll with it. Expect a full CS when I wake up tomorrow as its late where I am and I'm having a hard time finding good pictures.

On another note, where would be a good place for him and his sleeper cell to be? DC?

I'd probably put it somewhat closer to where the game is set. A place that would be more susceptible to Chinese infiltration. North Carolina and Georgia are good options, considering their histories with the United States.
