My advice to you if you don't have any real world fighting experience is keep it simple. If you're using hand to hand skills don't make it elaborate. Throw punches that are short and crisp, the body is a bigger target than the head. Kicks should never be above waist height. I know in the movies they kick for the head, but in a real fight you want everything low and controllable. If you're in melee, weapons provide a plethora of attack and counter-attack opportunities that also are best served directly and simply. Never be afraid to employ an elbow, kick even when armed with a melee weapon. You would be surprised how much opens up to you when you do so.
