Ignoring most of what just happened.... I fucking *loved* new Lara. Maybe because I didn't really get into old Lara (maybe because of the triangle-tit thing). Playing the new Tomb Raider felt badass, because you (and the character) overcame what felt like real challenges, and real struggles, instead of like.... "RAWWWRRRRR NORTH KERIA BOMM RARRRRRRR CHINA RISES RAWWWWWWR GUNGUNGUNGUN." It was fuckin' visceral. Animal. And character growth happened. I didn't get the mewling-weakling-pussy vibe at *all*.

Haven't played the new lara yet. I used to get all caught up in the mansion-stalking, tiger fighting Lara of the Playstation 1. Honestly though, it looks like a huge improvement to the whole Tombraider legacy. I watched a part online where she's crawling through dead bodies or something, and one scene looked particularly challenging as shes rushing downstream, the player kept getting her impaled on stray logs and such ahah.

Think Far Cry. It's a lot like Far Cry, but more dungeon-crawler/puzzle. Also pretty linear but with different approaches available (you can Assassin's Creed your way through, or blast through like it's Dark Souls)

Oh and quicktime events. Lotsa quicktime events.

Sometimes it's okay. Like if you were trying to beat Dishonored with a time limit that would probably add to the challenge and fun.

I've found rushing through games like Assassin's Creed does not benefit the player at all, heh. Edit; but than it just gets all monotonous.

There's some immersion to be gained from being like 'I have to save the princess *right the fuck now*, in some cases. Like if you're playing Skyrim you can win every fight by hiding and waiting for the engine to give you your sneak bonus back -- or you can be a champ and be like "I AIN'T HIDING BITCH COME AT ME" and just run in there with your axe and mickey-mantle some fucking orcs.

On that note, there's like a billion different ways to successfully approach shtuff in Skyrim. Well, not really, but kind of.

We're sexy and so are men. If people choose to involve hyperglorified ideal images to put in their artworks as tribute to their teenaged selves, so be it. People will always interpret art from their own experiences; any art that is definite can only ever be definite within the bounds of one mind. Being annoyed by it has only ever gotten me annoyed, so I say screw it. Let them make spine-breaking underprotected characters; I'll roll my eyes and then chastise myself for enjoying the show.

In the end, though, what can my opinions - specifically developed from my experiences, specifically created to facilitate my thoughts and functioning - what can they really mean to anyone but myself? Certainly I have overthought things, and think my ways are the right ways, and have subscribed to at least a dozen logical fallicies, but that doesn't change how I feel about anything.

We're sexy, and sometimes we like to indulge ourselves with that sexiness when we're creating something. I try not to judge that, I try not to impose my views on that, either. But sometimes, like an overused meme, I have to roll my eyes and utter sarcastic comments at the developers. It gets tiring, it gets old, there are thousands of other ways to make us sexy other than having spine-breaking breasts and scant clothing, and damnit, sometimes it just distracts me from the experience of the game.
