It's very fascinating. 

The more I read about it, the more I thought it sounded like a Marvel plot. Watching Iron-Man 2 made the rest sink in; tweak some things, and you could have an almost 'ready made' RP in the making that could both be an interesting story, and produce a lot of...odd character moments to let players play with. 

Also, hey, my only note for your post was: they DO take iPods into cockpits. All the time. Ditto cameras.

I had to work five hours over once because a pilot lost an ear bud. Ditto the cap of a water bottle.
