As far as predator/prey animals: after the animals bond their intelligence, understanding, and views will change. So a predator wouldn't really eat a prey bonded animal...they might tease, or react suddenly in surprise, ect, but nothing purposeful. However they are still predators and unbonded (aka normal) animals are fair game. To help this out a bonded animal would sense another bonded animal near, and they'd know what the other was on sight. They may also have some secret means of communication in the future...maybe. ;)
