It wasn't the actual Gay Pride parade, but rather a march to try and legalize gay marriage where I live, but it was really fun and the energy was positive. The people that go to these are really nice and approachable people, so there's no fear of being rejected or anything like that.

You should go to a rally some time.

I went to an LGBT pride in the UK once, and all I really took away from it was how homogeneous (fnar) and alcohol-oriented the LGBT scene seems to be in that neck of the woods. Given that some LGBT people are underage or don't care to drink and aren't particularly excited by tacky pop music, innuendo, and feather boas, it does make me wonder about whether it's actually an inclusive community or not. I get that it's reclaiming the cliché and all, but, seriously, does the LGBT community want to pigeon-hole itself exclusively into sparkles, sex, and the past-times of a pre-pubescent girl?

Good on you for marching, though. I imagine the vibe at a march is very different to a rainbow-themed street piss-up pride event.

Actually, we just want to get married and go through the misery and suffering of a married couple just like straight people do. There was no booze at this march, everyone was sober, and the drag queen was more fabulous looking than I.

I agree on giving more attention to minors of the LGBT community. It sucks that a gateway to the community exists literally maybe two or three blocks away but I legally cannot enter until I'm 18. That won't be too long of a wait, but I can't imagine being 14 or 15 and having to wait years and years just to encounter people you can be totally open with. Cons tend to be good places for LGBT stuff, as I've noticed with nearly every con I've gone to, but those occur a few times a year depending upon where people live and they can be expensive.

I can see why it would be suspicious for adults to organize events for LGBT kids. Probably something the kids themselves are going to have to work out.

I guess, but my problem isn't really with adults organizing stuff for LGBT kids, adults have more resources and generally more power to get that kind of stuff organized. I just think it'd be nice to see LGBT nights at bowling alleys or something, let kids know they aren't alone.

It's surprising how little is needed that can easily be provided. A regular, free LGBT youth group that's open to minors and young adults (including straight friends of LGBT people) for a couple of hours on a weekend only requires a room and probably a couple of actual adults to organise and take care of the legal/duty of care stuff.

In return, it offers local LGBT minors and youths a confidential place safe from judgement where everybody's in the same boat and minors on the brink of sexual maturity can ask for advice* on LGBT sex and relationships (probably barely mentioned in PSHE or whatever the American equivalent is - not that an LGBT student in the closet can really approach that anyway). More likely, they'll just get to spend a couple of hours a week not worried about whether they're straight, gay, male, female, a combination thereof, or not fitting into any category.

* Inb4 anybody says the internet is a better resource. Sure, there are good resources on the internet, but there are also some disastrously bad ones and people actively looking for vulnerable minors.

That sounds awesome, like a youth support group somewhere. I have a GSA at my school but they're treated pretty unfairly as far as funding and advertisement.
